Sylvia had just signed her name on the document when his sudden words caught her completely off guard. She looked up and frowned. "What are you trying to do?"

Steve blinked, feigning a look of perfect innocence. "Didn't we agree that you would stay by my side to monitor my quitting smoking?"

Sylvia laughed out of sheer exasperation at his twisted logic. "You go to your house, and I go to mine. Just behave yourself at night."

"How could that possibly work?" Steve argued with utter conviction. "What good is my self discipline? What if you wake up tomorrow morning and insist on suspecting that I sneaked a cigarette in the middle of the night? I wouldn't be able to defend myself no matter what I said, and that would be completely unfair to me." He crossed his arms over his chest, a roguish smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "For the sake of fairness, we must sleep in the same house tonight."

Sylvia glared at him, her eyes wide with irritation. She grabbed a folder from her desk, fully intending to smack his smug face with it.

Steve dodged half a step back with lightning-fast reflexes, his mouth still running. "Why are you glaring at me? It is not like we have never lived together before."

Hearing those words, Sylvia's breath hitched. Her mind involuntarily flashed back to New Year's Eve. Although she had been blackout drunk with many blank spots in her memory, the messy room and her aching body the next morning were enough to prove that many indescribable things had definitely happened that night. Just as her cheeks began to burn uncontrollably at the thought, Steve suddenly spoke again.

"When I say live together, I mean living in the same house like we did when you were married to me." He dragged out the end of his sentence deliberately, leaning in closer with a teasing gleam in his eyes. "It is not anything else. What are you thinking about? Your face is so red."

Having her thoughts exposed, Sylvia slammed her hand on the desk in a fluster. "Steve, do not push your luck." To cover up her panic, she immediately found an excuse to refuse him. "I live in a studio apartment. There is only one bed. It simply cannot accommodate a giant like you."
