Annie's P.O.V.
I didn't understand Evan at all. First, he destroys my glasses then he buys me a new pair? Is he bipolar? I just don't get it.
Maybe he felt sorry for me. Yep, that's it. He thinks I'm his pet.
I shouldn't let him treat me like this forever. I need to stand up to him! I headed towards the class I had with Brent. He was the only one who bothered to be nice to me or even talk to me. His simple kindness of acknowledging me means a lot!
"Hey Annie," Brent looked up and smiled.
"Hey, thank you for helping me the other day. And I am sorry Evan scared you," I frowned.
"Oh, that guy? Don't worry about it. He scares everyone, trust me," Brent chuckled. "I am glad you are okay. He didn't try anything to you, did he?" he looked worried all of a sudden.
"N..no...he actually is my neighbor so he just took me home," I said quietly.
"I am curious. You are always hanging out with him so I thought you two were friends but you seem to be scared of him?" Brent inquired.
"We aren't friends!" I said much too eagerly. "He bullies me into doing stuff for him!" I blurted out.
"Annie, you shouldn't let him push you around. You need to stand up for yourself. Just try it and maybe he will leave you alone," he smiled and touched my hand.
I felt my heart flutter. Do I like Brent?
After classes, I went to find Evan. I know what you are thinking. Why would I go look for my bully? Well, you see...if I didn't he still finds me then threatens me even more. Besides, I wanted to properly thank him for the new pair of glasses. They were expansive but he took out his wallet like it was nothing. Must be nice to be that rich.
He was leaned against the wall next to a water fountain. His eyes lit up as he saw me approaching. Who knows what he has in store for me this morning.
"There's my little hamster! Took you long enough," he said cheerfully.
I sighed. He never calls me by my name.
"Thank you for buying me new glasses, you didn't have to," I said timidly.
"I am the one who broke it, weirdo," he said and flicked my forehead.
"Yeah...but still." I looked down, rubbing my forehead.
"So this means you owe me. Therefore, you can't quit being my personal maid," he grinned. "It wasn't my initial plan to trap you by helping you, but it works out perfectly. Don't forget to bring my English homework tomorrow. Then you are gonna come over after school and clean my room."
I sighed in defeat. There was no winning with this guy. I can protest all I want, but in the end, I always ended up doing his bidding.
"Anyway, you hungry?" he asked me suddenly.
"Um...no...I gotta go to class now, can I go?" I asked shyly.
"Fine. Get the fuck outta here then. And don't forget to come over after school. I wasn't kidding about you cleaning my room. You wanna pay me back, don't you? Or are you some kinda freeloader?" Evan looked at me intently.
"I'll pay you back," I whispered.
"Good girl," he said and ruffled my hair.
Dammit...now I have to go fix my hair again.
"I just wanted to talk to you. You are hardly alone. That little dweeb with glasses is always with you," Portia complained.
"Annie? She is not a dweeb. She wears those glasses because she can't see without them," I said dismissively. Portia was starting to annoy me already.
"Whatever, I just came here to tell you that I've missed you. We should get back together," Portia said sweetly.
"Huh? But Why? I thought you said I was too mean," I raised my eyebrows. "Besides, aren't you dating James?"
"No, I am breaking up with him. You were mean to me sometimes but you had your moments too. Like how you looked out for me and sometimes you'd pay attention to what I wanted and get it for me," she said and gave me the googly eyes.
Oh, I see what's going on. Portia misses all the expensive things I used to buy for her. I guess James isn't doing it for her. Materialistic bitch.
"Well I am sorry Portia but Evan's charity service is closed. You don't interest me anymore," I said.
"You don't have to say it like that!" she whined.
"Excuse me," I said and walked away from her. I have to find Annie.
I saw her sitting on the table outside of the cafeteria with that squirrel face Brent. Since when did they become so close.
Brent was talking to her about something while she shyly twirled one of her braids. Her cheeks were pink like she was blushing.
Oh, I see what's going on, the little hamster is in love. But how dare she ignore me!
I thought about interrupting their little date but decided against it. She is coming over to my house after school to clean my room anyway so I am going to give her the third degree then.
