Evan's P. O. V

I went to see her grandma that day. I didn't have much time.

She opened the door and stared at me intently. "Ah, you are Stacy Green's boy. What are you doing here?"

"I didn't think you'd remember me," I let out a nervous chuckle.

"How could I forget. Annie cried for days because of you," she said curtly.

She did? Call me sadistic but that kind of made me happy. I wasn't the only one suffering from our separation.

"Well come on in. Let's hear what you have to say," she said and let me in. "Would you like some tea?" she asked after I sat down.

"No Ma'am I am fine," I said and quickly looked around the house. She had a nice house with lots of framed pictures. I recognized Annie's mom in some of them.

"What brings you here? And how did you know where she lived?" she asked.

"I saw her at the beach and well...I came here to ask you for something," I said.

She raised her eyebrows. "And what would that be?"

"I want Annie to come live with me," I went straight to the point. Something told me this strict old woman doesn't care for bullshit.

"Is that so?" she asked.

"I love her. She is an adult now so we can take care of each other. And I know she would rather be with someone she loves too," I said.

"She loved her mother too and looked what happened. Her mother, my daughter also went with her lover. But ended up pregnant and miserable," Annie's grandma said irritably.

"I am not like that. I'll protect her with my life. She'll be happy," I insisted. "And...and I wanna marry her someday," I blurted out.

"And what if I said no?" she asked and looked at me curiously.

"Then I will leave. She is forever grateful to you and she will never leave if you tell her to stay. But I will wait for her as long as it takes. And I will keep coming back here to visit and bother both of you. Over and over again," I smirked.

She smiled for the first time. "Why do I feel like you are going to be a pain in the ass?" she asked.

"Your intuition must be very strong," I laughed.

"Yes, it is. Which is why I am allowing her to go with you. I am not her mother so I am not going to control her and as you said, she is an adult," she said.

"You mean it!" I brightened.

"Yes, just don't be like her father and ditch her after getting her pregnant. I am too old to deal with all of that," she said dismissively.

"THANK YOU, GRANDMA!" I yelled and wrapped her into a bear hug.

"Yes," I said quietly.

"Yes what?" she glared at me.

"Yes ma'am," I said a little louder this time. I went back to my room feeling happy. This was easier I thought. Grandma may have been tough on me sometimes but I never felt hatred from her. Not like how it was with my mother.

After I was done packing I sat in my room and started to think about things. Even though I trust Evan with all my heart, I was still scared. What if this was a mistake?

"Annie."

I was startled when I heard my grandma's voice. "Yes, grandma?" I asked.

She handed me an envelope. "What's this?" I asked.

"This is a check for 25 thousand dollars. Although I expect you to work hard and make your own money, this will give you a head start on your savings. In case that boy turns out to be a bum," she said.

Tears gathered in my eyes. I never realized how much I will miss this cold, strict old woman. "Thank you," I whispered.

"Stay on guard. You may think you've heard the last of your mother but you are wrong. I know my daughter. She'll be back and try to destroy you. Be prepared for that," she warned me and left the room.

I hoped she was wrong and I never see my mother ever again.
