Clairessa’s POV
The sea breeze brushed against my face, whipping my hair lightly in the wind, and for a fleeting moment I forgot I was in my third trimester and wobbling around like a penguin most days.
I shut my eyes, soaking it all in, trying not to laugh at Gabriel’s ridiculous insistence on this trip.
“Gabriel....” I pressed a hand over my swollen belly. “I have no idea why you insisted we take a vacation now. I’m literally one wrong laugh away from going into labor. What if my water breaks in the middle of the ocean?”
He chuckled, sliding his arm tenderly around my waist and pulling me into his chest. His lips brushed my hair. “Relax....” he said, calm and unbothered as ever. “That’s why I brought the best team on board. There’s a doctor, a nurse, even a midwife, all ready to bring our beautiful baby Sassoon into the world if they have to. We’re perfectly safe.”
I tipped my head back and narrowed my eyes. “Of course you’d turn a yacht into a floating hospital.”
“Not a hospital.... a palace,” he corrected with a grin. “You deserve the best, Clairessa. And so does our child. The doctor cleared short travel, and it’s only two days. No stress, no drama, just us.”
I wanted to argue, but I knew it was useless. We were already here, and truthfully.... he was right. After everything that had happened this past month, we needed this. It was the first vacation we’d taken since then, and maybe the last chance to rest before our lives shifted forever with the arrival of the baby. I’d read enough and heard enough to know just how draining the newborn stage could be. Getting this time to breathe, to relax, to simply be together.... it was exactly what we both needed.
I leaned into him, resting my cheek against his chest. “You really thought of everything.”
“You should know by now....” he said with mock seriousness. “I always do.”
We laughed together, and my laughter turned into a soft exhale when a yacht slowed, pulling alongside the dock. Sleek lines, glistening white, luxury carved into every inch. My lips parted. “It’s just as I remembered....”
Gabriel smirked, leaning close. “Is that all you remember?”
I narrowed my eyes playfully, then my gaze landed on the name painted boldly across the hull.
Clairessa.
My jaw dropped. “Gabriel....” I breathed, clutching my chest. “Oh my God, don’t tell me....”
He smiled, smug and proud. “Yes. I named her after you.”
I covered my mouth with my hand, half laughing, half crying. “This is beyond anything I could have imagined. You named a yacht after me?”
His arms slid tighter around me from behind, his body warm against mine. He lowered his mouth to my ear. “Of course I did. This is where we first made love.... where you drove me insane.... where I knew there was no way I was letting you go, no matter how terrified I was of what I felt for you.” His voice dropped darker, huskier, and my knees nearly buckled. “So yes, you best believe I named her after you.”
Tears stung my eyes, but I laughed instead, my chest full. “What did I ever do to deserve you?”
His hand cupped my face as he spun me to face him, his thumb brushing the corner of my eye. “I should be the one asking that. How’s this for an early push present?”
