"What a shame," the maid sighed, eyeing the ruined silk. "You waited so long for this delivery, Mrs. Hanson."

She dug into her apron pocket and pulled out a small clump of white fluff. "Should I hold onto the rest of this?"

Hannah barely glanced at it. "Gonzalez is moving out, and he's taking his little beast with him. We won't be needing that anymore. Throw it out with the dress."

Upstairs, Gonzalez stepped into his room. Circe was curled up on the balcony. Instead of rushing over to affectionately rub against his legs like usual, the cat remained seated, staring up at him with wide, solemn eyes.

It was as if Circe had heard the screaming downstairs and understood exactly what had transpired.

Gonzalez walked over, crouching down to stroke the cat's head. A faint, gentle smile touched his lips. "I know you didn't do it."

He hadn't bothered to argue with his stepmother and sister, nor had he tried to gather evidence to clear Circe's name. If anything, he was grateful to them. They had handed him the perfect excuse to leave.

He scooped the white cat into his arms, settling him onto his shoulder. "Come on. Let's pack our bags."

A couple of days later, over the weekend, Norah officially moved into her new apartment, embracing the freedom of living on her own.

She didn't have much to bring. Over the past few days, the Lamonts had thoroughly stocked the place with every daily necessity imaginable. All she had to pack were her clothes.

Besides, it was only a one-month trial run.

Catherine Lamont had even arranged for the refrigerator to be packed with prepped, ready-to-cook meals. Even if Norah's culinary skills were lacking, she certainly wouldn't go hungry.
