Gonzalez hadn't slept well. A restless shadow lingered in his eyes as he pulled his lips into a tight smile. "Morning, Ms. Lamont."

Norah's eyes curved into a sweet smile. She reached up, her fingers grazing the dark stubble on his jaw. "Didn't sleep well last night?"

Gonzalez turned to face her, his expression serious. "Norah, tonight, you're sleeping in your own place."

Norah blinked, caught off guard. "Why?"

He narrowed his eyes. "Why do you think? If you keep torturing me like this, I'm not going to survive."

It took her a second to catch on. She instinctively glanced down under the covers, then asked tentatively, "Did I do something awful to you last night?"

"Yeah. You practically assaulted me," the man replied flatly.

Norah gasped. Was she really that aggressive when she was drunk?

A mix of embarrassment and bizarre pride washed over her. She yanked the blankets over her head and rolled around the bed. "I'm not going back! Your bed is way more comfortable!"

Gonzalez pulled her—blankets and all—back to the center of the mattress. "I'll give you the bed!"

Norah threw off the covers and glared at him. "Do you really hate being with me that much?"

"I want you," the man said, his dark gaze piercing her. "It's because I want you so badly that we need some distance."

Blushing furiously, Norah mumbled, "Did you forget what you said the other day?"

"What did I say?" Gonzalez asked.

"I'll be yours sooner or later, so don't rush it," the girl parroted his own words back to him.

Gonzalez fell completely silent.

Norah burst into giggles, lifting her head to kiss his jaw. "Go for your run. And bring back my favorite pan-fried dumplings, please!"
