Sara took a sip of her wine. "Gwenyth Harmon was a mutual friend of mine, Norah, and Khloe. She and Khloe were always a bit closer."

"It's a simple story. Junior year of college, she got a boyfriend. Decent-looking, but a total player."

"While he was dating Gwenyth, he'd use our group hangouts to hit on me, sneaking me flirty texts. I knew Gwenyth wouldn't believe me if I just told her, so when he asked me out, I played along and set up a trap for her to catch him in the act."

"But she was completely blinded by love. She bought his lie that I was the one seducing him. She cut me off and smeared my name all over campus. After graduation, they moved abroad together."

Adrian was shocked. "I can't believe you took that lying down!"

Sara took a large gulp of wine. "Women who let love blind them are utterly terrifying."

Adrian asked, "So what happened? Did they fly off into the sunset and live happily ever after?"

Sara scoffed. "Of course not. Not long after they left the country, the scumbag switched teams. He and his new boyfriend actually assaulted Gwenyth."

Adrian's eyes widened. "What a piece of trash." He looked at Sara. "You must be heartbroken for your friend, though."

Sara let out a harsh laugh. "Are you kidding? I'm way too vindictive for that. When I heard the news, I was so thrilled I stayed up all night. It's called karma, and all I can say is that the universe has eyes!"

Adrian gave her a thumbs-up and clinked his glass against hers. "I respect that."

Sara tipped her head back and drained her glass.

Gonzalez and Norah returned to The Eden Apartments. Riding the elevator up to the twenty-seventh floor, Norah remembered their morning conversation. Her eyes danced with mischief. "I'm going home now."

Gonzalez paused, his voice unreadable. "Do you have work tomorrow?"

"Yep." Norah nodded.

"Then get to sleep early."
