Out in the garden, Magdalen slouched in a wicker chair, still looking thoroughly unconvinced. "How am I being irrational?"
Estelle put her phone down, her lips curving into a gentle smile. "Morrison cares so much about the baby because it's your baby. The child is precious because of the mother."
Magdalen's bright eyes shifted as the words sank in. Her posture relaxed a fraction. "Okay, when you put it like that, it makes a little sense."
"If he let you do whatever you wanted, and something actually happened, who would blame themselves the most?" Estelle asked gently. "You would. Morrison is just trying to make sure you never have a reason to feel that kind of regret."
Magdalen finally sighed in defeat. "Am I just being a brat?"
Estelle raised an eyebrow, giving her a look that clearly said, 'What do you think?'
Magdalen studied Estelle for a moment. "We're both pregnant. How are you so incredibly calm?"
She had come hoping to vent and find a commiserating partner in misery, but Estelle was acting as chill as if she wasn't carrying a child at all.
Estelle took a sip of her lemon tea, her expression delightfully resigned. "Because I know resistance is futile."
Magdalen threw her head back and laughed.
With the tension finally out of her system, she felt much better. "I stopped by Old Mr. Quintin's place before coming here. I saw Sylvia's wedding dress. It is absolutely stunning."
"I did the initial sketches," Estelle smiled, "but Harriet brought it to life."
"It suits Sylvia perfectly," Magdalen praised. "Mrs. Quintin is back, too, and there are a ton of her students staying at the house. Old Mr. Quintin loves having a full house, and it's definitely packed right now."
Estelle nodded. "Sylvia was still working the day before I got here."
"She's a total workaholic," Magdalen laughed.
"She's incredibly capable," Estelle agreed softly.
Only around her brother did Sylvia ever let her guard down and show her softer side.
