A chorus of surprised voices erupted around the table. "Mr. Foster, why the sudden departure?"

"We've been trying to book a lunch with you for weeks! We haven't even finished this bottle of wine."

"Mr. Foster must really have an emergency. We'll catch up next time!"

Carson strode out of the private dining room and exited the hotel. His driver was already idling by the curb.

"Where to, Boss?"

Carson's expression was thunderous.

"The Exquisite Lounge."

Back at the restaurant, Marina had called Summer back over, and their food had just arrived.

"When are you heading to B City?" Kane asked Marina.

Marina thought for a moment. "Probably right before the New Year. I might stay there to spend the holidays with my grandfather."

Kane looked delighted. "You should bring your parents along. Your mom would definitely love to spend the holidays back in B City. The festive atmosphere there is always the best."

Marina had considered it, but her father was fiercely devoted to his own parents and refused to leave them during the holidays. Getting them all to go together would be difficult.

"B City built a few new traditional culture streets for the holidays this year. It should be really lively!" Kane smiled warmly. "When you get there, I'll take you around."

Marina set down her silverware and looked at him seriously. "Even though my grandfather orchestrated this whole misunderstanding, I still think it's best to be clear. I have absolutely no intention of dating anyone right now. I'm sorry."

Kane instantly understood. A flicker of disappointment crossed his eyes, but he quickly masked it with a bright, easy smile. "That's perfectly fine. We can just treat this as a reunion between old friends."

Seeing how understanding he was, Marina relaxed. She was just about to say something else when she looked up and froze.

Carson Foster was walking straight toward them.

He moved at a measured, unhurried pace, his dark, predatory gaze locked on her. He briefly glanced at the back of Kane's head before pulling out the chair right next to Marina and sitting down. He offered her a devastatingly soft smile. "A friend?"

Kane blinked in surprise, looking at Marina with a questioning expression.
