---- Aurora's POV ----
It's been a month since Montana died. I had her placed right next to my father and mother. It was only right, for Montana had become a second mother to me.
After I thanked alpha Wolfgang for aiding Montana the day of the attack, I thought he'd be less arrogant and bossy towards me, but one can only wish.
He and Tallulah have been making more display on their relationship before the pack but still every time I came across a male-wolf he'd forbid me of ever interacting with them again. Of course, they all feared the alpha, so they all avoided me like the plague. The only one brave enough to keep talking to me were beta Max, Aspen and even gamma Remus who started to hang around me.
We'd mostly spend the evening watching movies or just chatting in the garden. They were nice and helped me distract myself from the constant heartache of facing your mate with someone else but when night came and I was alone in bed, I couldn't help the tears that erupted.
I still didn't understand why did alpha Wolfgang keep me around. Why haven't he rejected me? Why was he torturing me this way? If he didn't like me, why would he keep me around? Was this some type of game to him? It must be.
"Rory! Earth to Rory!" Emma's voice brought me back to reality. I was currently in my room face timing with my best friend.
"Sorry Em. What were you saying?"
"I was telling you about this cute guy that is in my history class but hey, looks like my life isn't as important as yours." She said annoyance laced in her voice.
"I'm sorry Em." I said to her not wanting my best friend to be angry at me.
"Are you sure you're all right Rory? I know it must be hard for you, after all that's happened just last mon...' She said but I cut her off.
"I really don't want to talk about it Em."
"I understand. And how're things going with the alpha? Have you confessed your love for him?" She asked as she wiggled her eyes.
"I don't want to talk about that either Em." I told her.
"What happened?" She asked, already reading through my sour mood.
"He found his mate." I lied to her hoping she'd let it go.
"Oh Rory! I'm so sorry." She seemed genuinely hurt this time. "But hey, At least this was just a crush. You'll find your mate soon." She said trying to cheer me up.
"I doubt it." I told her.
"Look Rors. You can't keep degrading yourself like that. You may not see your worth, but I do and believe me, you're bound to great things." She said as she looked at me with that determined look in her eyes that said that there was no room for arguing.
How I wished I was as determined as her. Maybe my mate would acknowledge me if I were liker Emma.
"Look Rory. I know it seems that the moon goddess has only curse you with misfortunes but believe me when I say that greatness will come, and in the end of all of these trials, I'll say I told you so." She said to me, her face soften a bit. "I gotta go. I gotta study for the test tomorrow. I'll call you tomorrow night okay?" She said to me.
"Sure Em. Good luck tomorrow." I told her though I know she doesn't even need it. Emma was always a straight A student. I knew she had this.
Wolfgang growled as he took another step closer but then backed away as if he realized something was wrong, turning out the door and marching into his room not before slamming the door.
I stood there frozen for a moment before turning back into my room. Rhea was still obnoxiously running from side to side in my head. My body seemed like it ached even more than before.
I leaned against the door as I tried to steady my beating heart.
"Rhea. Please... talk to me... What was that?" I asked my wolf who had finally composed herself and was now panting agitated.
"Aurora... That was the calling of our mates to finally bond. It was your first heat." Rhea spoke sending chills down my spine.
"Heat?! I'm in heat?!" I shouted in my mind as panic soon took over me once more.
"Yes Aurora. And it will only increase more unless you mate with Wolfgang. Or else you will attract unmated wolves to us." She said as she whined.
What was I supposed to do now? Not only was I never going to mate with Wolfgang, but if he didn't reject me, I'd be forced to hide from unmated wolves.
"It's okay Aurora. I'm sure Wolfgang wouldn't allow that to happen to us." Rhea tried to comfort me but all I felt was fear of what my future would become?
When a male and a female wolf mate, they must bond. And in order to do it, they must mark each other. That way, no other wolf will ever be able to mate with them.
Of course, that would never be my case.
