"So I can go?" I asked hopefully, gazing up at him.

"Yes, but only if we can compromise slightly." He let me go and rummaged through a drawer in his dresser, producing an old flip phone. "Stay in areas where you are in cell service, so you can call me in case of anything. Deal?"

I bobbed my head hurriedly, taking the phone. I was about to bolt away, when I turned and bounced onto my tippy toes to kiss his cheek in thanks. "Go back to sleep," I told him.

His eyes burned into mine intensely. "I won't be able to."

"I promise to be back before the sun rises," I assured him.

Dominic nodded slowly, taking my hand. "At least let me walk you out. It'll calm my wolf a little." He pulled me down the stairs, his body tense and rigid. I could tell he didn't want to let me go. Or his wolf didn't, maybe.

I was about to exit the front door, when he pulled me back. "Please, Cara, for the love of God. Be safe," he said softly, pressing a kiss to the corner of my mouth.

With a smile, I squeezed his hand. "I will. Thank you."

Just like I promised, I was back on the land before the sky had changed from blue into the array of colors that was sunrise. The front door was left unlocked so I popped in and locked it behind me. But my mind and body were too awake to be able to go back to sleep. The clock read five thirty, so I figured I'd make some coffee and maybe take a shower.

As I began making coffee, I listened for movement around the house. Maybe Dominic had fallen asleep. Hopefully, that was the case. Either way, I made both of us a mug. I just added a little sugar to his, hoping that was the way he liked it.

Then I went up the stairs and into the bedroom. When I opened the door and peeked in, he rolled over in bed and smiled sleepily at me. "Feeling better, gorgeous?"

"Yeah." I passed him the coffee, and he sat up. "I needed that. A lot."

Dominic wrapped one arm around my middle, pulling me down onto the bed next to him. Slow enough that I wouldn't spill my drink, but forceful enough that I couldn't escape him. He kissed my face repeatedly. "Thanks for the drink, baby," he hummed. "Where did you go?"

"My parents' death," I said simply. "It has been a dream... a nightmare I have had since it all happened. But I haven't had it in years. I hate... I don't want them to come back. It hurts seeing it over and over again and having to feel like the helpless little kid I was back then. Watching as they were- as my parents were-"

Dominic pulled me tightly against him, letting me stick my face in his neck as his arms tucked around my waist. "Shh, it's okay. It'll be alright," he murmured. "It's maybe just a fluke. But I know how much it must hurt. I'm sorry. What do you usually do when you have these?"

I sniffled miserably. "Hang out with Alfie. We would usually go to that cafe. But I screwed that up. Big time."

He kissed my hair tenderly. "No, you didn't. I promise. You two just need some space to heal separately before you try to come back together. Then you'll both realize what really happened and it'll be okay again."

"I don't know, Dominic."

"You'll see. I promise you will see." He shifted a little so I was still against his chest, but he could take a sip of his coffee. "I think we should have breakfast with the pack."
