"Okay."

Blindly, I fixed the blankets to rest up on my shoulders before relaxing completely into the wolf's embrace. Dominic sponged a few more kisses onto my ear and hair before his body settled back into position. "Caroline?"

Sleep was already taking over me, Dom's touch and care a catalyst for unconsciousness. All I could do was manage a hum in response. "I love you."

Dominic was helping me with my crisis, so I knew I had to do something to help his. Meaning, the fact that the Beta was trying to take his title away from him because of me.

"No, Cara," Dom said sternly when I inferred about the work I was going to do. "I appreciate you wanting to help, but nobody's taking my throne away from me. It runs in my blood. I'm not the least bit worried about what he could do."

I huffed, shaking my head from where I was sat on the counter in the kitchen. Dominic was making himself a hearty breakfast, since he and the guards and fighters of the pack were going on a late-morning run. A long one too. "But you can't just do nothing. Getting cocky is where the champions always fail."

He snorted, throwing a piece of bacon at me. "This isn't a movie, sugar. Have a little more faith in me, okay?"

I glared at the grease stain on my top from where the bacon hit my shoulder, pouting at Dom. "Do you know how hard it is to get grease out? And I have faith in you. But I don't trust those two. Especially Nina."

"You better take off your shirt so we can wash it then," Dominic replied, ignoring the rest of my statement.

My eyes narrowed at him. "Is now the time for your sexual frustrations?"

"Speaking of sexual frustrations, you know your heat is coming soon. How are you feeling?" he quizzed.

This time, I let him change the subject. "I'm fine. I don't feel any different."

Dominic grinned lopsidedly. "That isn't what I meant. If it was starting, we both would know, trust me. What I mean is how you feel emotionally. Nervous, prepared? We need to make a plan for... for everything, really."

My bottom lip was immediately sucked between my teeth and I bit down hard on it, looking down at my bare feet. "I don't know."

Dominic chuckled at me, leaning back to kiss me softly. "Of course. I know you play by your own rules."

I tugged on his hair so I could speak, my mind quickly turning to putty when his mouth began travelling down my throat. "D-Dominic," I warned, but had no idea what exactly I was warning him of. My thighs lifted to hook on his hips of their own accord, my ankles crossing behind him.

"You like it when I kiss you like this, don't you?" he hummed, arms wrapping around me possessively. "You're already quaking beneath me and I'm barely touching you. How will you react when I'm kissing much more intimate places?"

"Dom."

The Alpha chuckled darkly, playfully nipping at my skin. "I can't wait to have you beneath me. You'll be nervous, I bet."

I shook my head, but Dominic obviously begged to differ. "Sweetheart, you get nervous when I touch you like this. The only time you aren't nervous being in a slightly intimate situation is when you've drinken my vodka stash."
