With a giggle, I angled my head away from him. "Touche."

With a dramatic sigh, Dominic pressed a chaste kiss to my mouth. "I have to get going now, sugar. You've distracted me so you can eat my breakfast. Will you leave me something in the fridge when I get back?"

With a theatrical salute, the man rolled his eyes at me. "I'll be back in a little while. Please don't get into too much trouble while I'm gone, alright? And stay on the property."

"Okay, dad," I teased.

"-dy," he corrected. When I gave him a confused look, he clarified. "Daddy, call me daddy."

"Have you cleared this with Dominic, Caroline?" Jeff asked as he wiped his face down with a towel.

Jeff wasn't running with the pack today. Dominic tried to keep at least one of them in the headquarters of the area, in case of any emergency, but every once in a while, the two would both go. Like last time, for example. But today, Jeff was using the indoor gym to get a workout in, which is where I caught up to him.

"No, because you know he wouldn't let me," I said, leaning against the weight racks. "I like him, but I do have to go behind his back sometimes. And he knows it too! Listen, I just want to be able to defend myself."

He snorted, crossing his arms over his chest with a brow raised at me. "You seemed to handle yourself just fine when you attacked my mate."

Dammit. I was hoping he wouldn't remember that. "Well... yeah. I'm the type of fighter where I have to get the first hit in to win. Had Nina came after me first, she would have won. I'm an explosive fighter, not an endurance one. If that makes sense."

"Dominic said that you beat him in a fight."

"We can start in two days. Nina and I are going out for a day trip tomorrow, so the morning after that we can meet here while Dominic is doing office work. And only for like an hour a day, okay?"

"That's totally fine, thank you!"

As I hurried from the gym, I couldn't help but smile to myself. I wasn't the best liar, but I now felt like a mastermind. Not an evil one though, because my intentions weren't necessarily bad, were they? I mean, Jeff and Nina want to take the throne that Dominic was born to have. He was the rightful heir. It was my duty as his mate and as a loyal person to help him out in whatever way I could, right?

Two weeks passed of a similar pattern. Each day, I would train with Jeff for an hour and to put it lightly, he was kicking my ass. But I was learning his techniques and quirks. I now knew his giveaway of where his next move would be, so my blocking skills were getting better and better by the day. The last fifteen minutes of each training Jeff would have us actually fight and it was hard to keep myself in line and not completely throttle him, especially when the man teased me.

With the big battle being only a couple weeks away, I knew I had to really start paying attention to the little things if I were to help Dominic out at all. Both my mind and body were getting stronger and by the end of these two weeks, I was beginning to see a pattern in Jeff's combat.
