Evadne took a deep, shaky breath. “Of course, that’s the worst-case scenario. In his grandfather’s eyes, his grandson’s well-being is more important than power. But if this fight continues, who knows what other insane things Chad might do. His grandfather has been living with that bloody secret, under immense pressure, for so many years. He must be in agony.”

“Ms. Evadne, we have to do something to help Mr. Thaddeus get through this!” Jason leaned forward, his face etched with anxiety as he looked at her. “The Abernathy Group is the culmination of his life’s work. We can’t let it fall into the hands of a schemer!”

“Jason, more than you, more than anyone, I want Thaddeus to win. If justice won’t prevail, I’ll walk a darker path. I will protect Thaddeus and the Abernathy Group, no matter what it takes.” After a moment of contemplation, Evadne opened her eyes again, a fierce crimson light in their depths. “Ever since Chasel left, Chad has had Alexia by Thaddeus’s side. “Jason, we need to send a top-tier, trustworthy lawyer over there immediately,” Evadne said, her mind already working through every angle. “Right now, aside from his grandfather, I don’t trust anyone at the Abernathy Group. But Hamilton is getting older, and his spirit is willing but his body is weak. It’s not impossible that Chad has bought off someone else in his inner circle besides Mr. Murray.”

After an indeterminate amount of time, the door opened. Logan walked in with another officer, his face grim. He slapped a lab report down in front of Thaddeus, his gaze sharp and accusatory. “The results are in. Positive.”

Thaddeus’s eyes flickered, but his expression didn’t change. “I don’t use drugs.”

“Are you saying this report is fake? Do you think our forensics lab is just for show, Mr. Thaddeus?” Logan sneered. He slowly pulled out a small plastic bag and dangled it in front of him. “This should look familiar. We found it in a drawer in your office.”

Thaddeus stared at the bag of small blue pills. His gaze darkened, and the hand resting on his knee tensed, veins bulging as his fingers curled into a tight fist.
