“And your assignment?”

“Already finished.”

Riana immediately narrowed her eyes. “Really?”

Josh laughed. “Yes, GrandMom.”

“Then tomorrow, you have to show it to me.”

Josh was stunned. “Why does it have to be checked too?”

“Because I’m your grandmother, and I have the right to know how well you’re doing academically, Josh.”

Josh pouted and spoke again. “The same goes for Eli. You have to look at hers too.”

Riana shook her head slowly. “I already have a copy of her evaluations from nearly a year at Raven.”

“Oh, my God,” Josh complained. His shoulders drooped weakly. “Why only me?”

Laughter erupted around the dining table again.

Eli, sitting between Naomi and Grace, simply smiled.

It had been a long time since she had experienced an atmosphere like this. Warm, lively, and simple. No one looked at her suspiciously. No one asked her to explain what had actually happened. At the Miller family home, she did not need to be anyone other than herself.

After dinner was over, some of the family moved to the family room to chat. However, Eli chose to step outside into the backyard for a while. The night air felt cooler, and the light from the house illuminated part of the yard filled with trees and flowers.

She had only taken a few steps when she heard the sound of the door opening behind her.

“Eli.”

The girl turned around.

Josh walked toward her with both hands tucked into his pants pockets. He had just changed clothes after taking a shower, and his hair was still slightly wet.

“You’re not asleep yet?” Eli asked.

“Not yet. I saw you come outside.” Josh stood beside her. For a few moments, the two of them simply gazed at the garden in silence.

“Josh,” Eli called at last.

“Hm?”

“Thank you.”
