Beside the table, tall windows overlooked the hotel’s perfectly landscaped garden. Sheer cream-colored curtains were half drawn, allowing the afternoon light to spill softly into the room, creating an atmosphere that felt both calm and exclusive.

Every detail in the room looked expensive and perfectly arranged-far too luxurious for what was supposed to be a quick lunch.

“Do you even know how much a single dish cost here?” Lydia finally asked.

“I don’t care.”

“Of course you don’t.” Lydia took her seat. “So, what do you want to eat for lunch?”

Cale sat across from her and opened the menu with visible reluctance. “You order.”

Lydia shook her head in disbelief at his behavior today. It didn’t take long before a waiter arrived a few minutes later to take their orders. Once everything had been settled and the door closed again, the room fell quiet.

Lydia leaned back slightly in her chair. “You’re not going to explain why I had to come here?”

Cale looked at her without blinking. “I wanted to see you,”

“That’s a terrible reason.”

“Not to me.”

Lydia raised an eyebrow. “You interrupted my schedule just to say that?”

Cale didn’t answer.

Instead, he stood up from his chair.

Lydia barely had time to ask what he was doing before Cale walked around the table to the side where she was sitting.

She turned to him with a puzzled look. “Your seat is over there.”

“I know.”

“Then why are you sitting here?”

Cale didn’t move. Instead, he leaned slightly closer and rested his head against Lydia’s shoulder.

Lydia stiffened immediately. “What are you doing?”

“You talk too much.” His voice was low and lazy.

Lydia shot him a sharp look. “You’re incredibly annoying, Cale.”

He didn’t respond.

A few seconds later, he shifted again and gestured for Lydia to follow him toward the sofa in the main sitting area of the room. Though reluctant, Lydia couldn’t refuse when she saw the exhaustion he was no longer trying to hide.

She would be lying if she said she wasn’t worried about him. It wasn’t just his health either-his safety concerned her just as much. Cale’s temper was unpredictable, and the situation involving Daven, Althea, and Chase Miller had been draining for everyone involved.

Lydia hadn’t expected all those problems to be so deeply connected. Because of it, Cale had been incredibly busy handling everything. Not just Cale-Chris and Daven had been just as overwhelmed.

“What exactly are you-”

“Sit,” Cale ordered.

Lydia obeyed without thinking. She had barely settled onto the sofa when Cale lowered himself beside her and rested his head in her lap. Lydia went completely still.
