The morning air was still cold as Cale's black sedan left the outskirts of the city. The roads were beginning to fill with traffic, but the man paid no attention to the vehicles around him. His eyes remained fixed on the road ahead, while the slip of paper Hector had given him just minutes earlier was still neatly folded inside the pocket of his black coat. Since leaving the café, he had barely spoken a single word. Every thought in his mind was focused on one thing alone.

Lydia.

About twenty minutes later, the car turned into an old warehouse district that had long since been abandoned. Weathered concrete buildings stood on both sides of the road, most of them covered in moss with paint peeling away from age. In one of the spacious parking lots, several black SUVs were already waiting.

The moment Cale's car came to a stop, Vincent immediately walked over.

"Sir."

Cale got out without wasting a second. His gaze swept across the entire area before settling on the more than a dozen members of the Obsidian Circle standing in formation, fully equipped.

"Is everything ready?" he asked.

Vincent nodded. "Fourteen men, with more arriving in twenty minutes. They're all from Tier One."

Cale studied their faces one by one. There weren't many of them, far fewer than the force Chris had taken with him.

"That's more than enough," Cale said.

Vincent seemed to understand the reasoning behind the decision. The fewer people who moved, the less likely they were to attract attention.

One of the operatives handed Cale a tablet. A digital map linked to the coordinates Hector had provided immediately filled the screen.

"We're about thirty minutes from this location."

Cale handed the tablet back to Vincent. "We're leaving now."

No one objected.

The engines came to life once again. The small convoy quickly left the warehouse district and headed north through Carrington Bay. The first several minutes passed in silence. Only the sound of the engines and the tires rolling over the asphalt filled the cabin.

Vincent finally broke the silence. "I still can't believe Silas was bold enough to go this far."

Cale kept his eyes fixed on the road ahead. "He crossed the line I set."

"I know he's an ambitious man." Vincent let out a quiet breath. "But he always calculates every move before he acts."

"This time, he calculated everything too."

Vincent turned to look at him. "What do you mean?"

Cale leaned back in his seat. "Silas never does anything without a purpose."

"Was kidnapping Mrs. Lydia part of that plan too?" Vincent asked.

"Not just Lydia." Cale's voice was flat, yet every word carried absolute certainty. "He's forcing me out into the open. Forcing me to make a decision as quickly as possible."

Vincent fell silent.

"If I lose control, the entire Obsidian Circle will mobilize. And once that happens, he can use the chaos to seize what he's wanted all along."

"Your position, Mr. Cale? Chairman of the Obsidian Circle and, by extension, the head of the Devereux family?"

"Yes."

An oppressive silence settled over the car. Vincent stared at the road stretching out ahead.

"For that position," he said, slowly shaking his head, "...he's even willing to risk the lives of so many people."

"Not so many people." Cale corrected him. "Everyone involved."

Vincent said nothing more.

He had known Silas for a long time. The man's ambition had always been immense, but he had carefully maintained the image of someone calm and calculating. Kidnapping Lydia so openly was something Vincent had never imagined he would do.

"That means," he murmured quietly, "he no longer cares who has to be sacrificed."
