Dozens of rifle barrels were still trained on Cale without shifting in the slightest. The smell of gunpowder filled the corridor, now shrouded in dust from the walls that had cracked during the fight moments earlier. No one dared move. Even the sound of breathing was unmistakably clear amid the oppressive silence.

Silas wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with his thumb, then flashed a crooked smile. His gaze slowly swept over the men surrounding them from every direction.

Cale finally lifted his gaze. "I'm waiting."

That brief reply caused Silas's smile to fade slightly. "Waiting for what?"
