“Naomi, I’m fine.”

Naomi looked at her firmly. “If you were really fine, your face wouldn’t be this pale.”

Lydia did not have time to answer. Naomi had already called Cale. Within minutes, the man called back. As soon as he heard about Lydia’s condition, his voice immediately turned serious.

“What happened?”

Naomi explained everything. “Ever since you left this morning, she hasn’t looked well. Now she says her stomach feels uncomfortable.”

“I’m coming home.”

Lydia, who heard him from nearby, immediately interrupted, “Cale, you don’t have to. You still have work to do.”

“I can deal with it later.”

“But—”

“I’m coming home, Lydia.”

The call ended. Lydia could only let out a long sigh. A few hours later, Cale really did arrive home. He immediately went to Lydia, checked her condition, and then contacted the doctor for advice.

After learning that Lydia’s condition was not concerning and that she only needed to rest, the tension on Cale’s face finally eased slightly.

Lydia looked at him guiltily. “You canceled your work just because of me?”

Cale sat beside her. “It’s fine.”

“The business can be handled by someone else. I’ve already handed it over to Vincent and Paula,” Cale continued calmly. “Meetings can be rescheduled. Work can wait.”

The words made Lydia’s chest feel full. For several seconds, she simply looked at Cale before slowly resting her head against his shoulder. “I’m really causing you trouble.”

Cale smiled and kissed her forehead. “If you asked me to choose between work and taking care of you, I wouldn’t even have to think.”

From the doorway, Naomi, who had been watching them, only smiled in relief. For the first time since morning, she no longer felt anxious. And Lydia, in Cale’s arms, once again felt the peace she had been searching for.

She knew that as long as the man was holding her hand like this, she would never have to face anything alone.

The night felt much calmer than the days before. After dinner, Lydia sat on the sofa in the family room with a cup of warm tea in her hands. Cale was beside her, while Naomi sat not far away, checking some notes about her wedding preparations with Chris.

The atmosphere in the house felt light. There was no talk of danger, no bad news, and for the time being, their lives were filled only with simple things that were beginning to make Lydia dare to imagine the future.

“I’ve been thinking about something,” Lydia said suddenly.

Cale turned to her. “What?”

“The baby’s name.”

Naomi fell silent. She glanced at Cale for a moment, hoping he would defend her. But Cale seemed to be enjoying the situation instead. “Don’t look at me,” he said calmly. “This is between the two of you.”

“That’s not helping at all,” Naomi grumbled.

Lydia held back a laugh. “So?”

Naomi let out a long sigh. “All right. Then I’ll call you Lydia.”

Lydia’s smile immediately widened. “That’s better.”

Naomi then turned to Cale. “Then should I call you Cale too?”

“Isn’t that my name?”

Naomi frowned. “I’ve always called you Mr. Miller.”

“I know.”

“And you never objected,” Naomi quickly argued.

“I also never said I liked it.”

Naomi fell silent for a few seconds. “You two are really troublesome.”

Lydia chuckled softly. “You’re the one making it complicated.”

Naomi sighed again. She knew there was no point in holding on to the habit. After everything they had been through together, the distance between them had indeed changed. Lydia was no longer merely Cale’s wife whom she respected as part of the family. Lydia had become someone she truly cared about. The same went for Cale, who had always treated her like his own younger sister.
