"Lowell mentioned that Axel woke up?"

Elysia nodded.

"He did, but he's so weak he slipped back into unconsciousness shortly after. Blossom is in there sitting with him."

Tarquin furrowed his brow slightly. "I'll go see him."

They walked back to the hospital room together. Tarquin stood there, staring at Axel for a long time.

He didn't say a single word, but the deep pain and concern in his eyes were impossible to miss.

The way he leaned down to tuck the blankets around Axel made him look exactly like a protective older brother looking after his wounded sibling.

Not wanting to intrude, the two of them stayed for only a short while before slipping out.

They left Blossom alone to stay with Axel.

The area was crawling with bodyguards—not just their own men, but police as well. It was completely secure.

On the way back to the hotel, Elysia tried to comfort him.

"Don't worry too much about Axel. He's just physically exhausted. A little rest and he'll bounce back. It's an absolute miracle he survived at all."

Tarquin nodded and reached out to pull her close to his side.

"Fate has been kind to me. It gave me back my wife and children, and it didn't take my brother from me. I'm grateful."

Fate: *If you're so grateful, stop cursing me out all the time!*

Elysia leaned against him, gently stroking his cheek to soothe him.

After a moment, she asked, "Why haven't I seen Lowell?"

Tarquin narrowed his eyes briefly. At that very moment, Lowell was with Warrick, venting all of his pent-up fury...

When he had left for the hospital to find Elysia and Axel, Lowell was literally rubbing salt into Warrick's wounds.
