I met with John at a restaurant next to the office.

As we ate, I went over some details of the agreement with her.

"So you're really going through with it?"

John looked at me with a hint of sympathy.

She didn't know about my relationship with Alexander.

Actually, no one at the firm did.

Alexander hated mixing personal matters with work.

"Yeah, my husband's been cheating."

"But it's fine. I want out too."

Just as I said that, I spotted Alexander walking in, hand in hand with Marie.

The moment he saw me, he instinctively let go of her hand.

I gave them both a polite smile.

Then I called the waiter over and moved my seat to the patio.

The sunlight was nice, and more importantly, I wouldn't have to see them.

I still remember two months ago.

Alexander was out shopping with Marie while I was picking out his birthday gift.

Same mall.

"Want a ride back?"

"Give me a minute. I'm just finishing up."

He looked pleased and leaned in slightly to peek at my laptop.

"What are you working on?"
