Claire's Point of View
Caiden helped me bring in the plastic cups, bottles and bags of chips into my house.
"Claire! Where have you been?" Jeffery asked me rushing downstairs and following us in the kitchen. "Who's the nerd?"
"Jeffery!"
"That's it I'm changing."
"You look nice!" I tried telling him but he shook his head, already making his way toward the door.
"Claire, this isn't my look. I only wear this shit for important meetings," he told me and I sighed knowing there was nothing I could say to change his mind.
"You don't have any extra clothes," I said, a smug smile crawling its way on my face.
He scoffed. "You must have been so entranced with that West guy that you didn't notice I was holding a pile of clothes." He shook his head after a minute of me not responding he said, "Of course." The smug smile slipped from my face and instead my jaw dropped.
"I was not entranced with him and we're only friends! If that!" I yelled to him from the door.
"Is he like a new boyfriend or something? I always thought you'd end up with Nathan," Jeffery said watching me with curious eyes.
"Ew no. Nathan and I, will never be anything more than best friends," I said, scrunching up my nose in disgust.
"Whatever. It's already seven and party starts in an hour. We have to pull this off," he told me as Caiden passed us, heading upstairs.
"First door on the right!" I yelled, before looking back at my brother. "Jeffery, trust me. I've been throwing parties for years. You have some pretty high party expectations which is why I brought this," he followed behind me curiously. I turned and extended my arm, pointing at the counter that had about fifteen didn't types of alcohol bottles on it.
"Yes! You fucking Rock sis," he said throwing his arms around me, giving me a quick hug before letting me go as if I was on fire. "Let's pretend I didn't just do that." Awkwardly, he scratches the back of his neck. Caiden cleared his throat, making our eyes snapped over to him. He changed back into his typical black jeans and a grey shirt.
He's wearing so many different colors it's just blinding.
"Oh good, so you aren't actually a nerd. That would ruin the party," Jeff said making me elbow his side.
"Be nice. He's the one that bought the alcohol."
"I would be the last one to ruin the party," Caiden said, an arrogant smirk on his face." I invited some friends by the way."
"You did what!?" I exclaimed.
"Just Kyle and Tom. Oh and Jax. I'm sure you invited Nathan and that chick," he said rolling his eyes as he leaned against the wall.
"This is just perfect. I swear if Jax cause any problems I will-"
"Okay Mom. Can we worry about bigger problems like I don't know getting music going," Jeff interrupted, making me narrow my eyes. Caiden chuckled a little. I didn't have to look at him to know he was smirking.
"The DJ will be here any second. Calm yourself." I waved him off and started putting the chips in bowls. You're lying to yourself if you say you don't like food at a party.
"One more thing," Jeffery started, making me groan obnoxiously. "Please change into something more party like. I mean Claire you're a college student you should know that's not how you dress when you're going to a party." I scoffed, rolling my eyes.
"Why don't you go and mind your own business before I cancel this whole thing. You should know how I am. I mean I wore shorts and a tank top to graduation and a dress and converse to prom."
Caiden watched me with an amused smirk and chuckled. "Even I looked nice for prom."
"I looked nice," I said defensively," I just wore a pair of converse instead of heels that's all."
"She also didn't ride with her date who got a limo for them and instead just took her skateboard." It surprised me to hear his deep laugh echoed around my quiet house for a good five minutes. Especially since Jeffery was around. I secretly glanced at him, there were small crinkles by his eyes and he also had dimples. Who knew he could be so carefree at times.
"I'm definitely right you are a bitch." I simply shrugged not disagreeing, everyone knows it was true.
"I'm going to get ready. Keep an eye out for the DJ," Jeffery said, walking out of the kitchen leaving only Caiden and me in comfortable silence. I thought back to our surprisingly calm day. We didn't fight once. Okay maybe I'm lying, we fought a few times but it was just simple bickering. I thought back to one particular moment when we stopped at the park.
"Why do we always go to the park to talk?" Caiden asked me, leaning back on the bench and looking up at the surprisingly clear sky. "I mean it's like forty degrees."
"That's better than negative five. Stop whining like a little girl," I said, rolling my eyes. "And I like the park, it's calm here."
"There's children everywhere," he said distastefully.
"Get over it grandpa. You're always so grumpy."
"If I'm grandpa then who's the grandma?"
"Maybe there isn't one. You'll probably die single at this rate," I retorted and he smirked.
Music started blasting downstairs and I immediately knew the party started. I didn't like Caiden so it doesn't matter if he is ever in a relationship.
I grabbed my key from my bedroom and put it in my bra, shutting and locking my door. I'm not walking in later to see two teenagers having sex on my bed.
"It seriously took you an hour to get ready? I had to talk to your brother," Caiden said, narrowing his eyes at me.
"Suck it up. You're the one that agreed to come," I said rolling my eyes. My eyes skimmed the room to see it didn't take long for people to get here and get the party going.
"Claire and Caiden. I never expected to see you two standing next to each other and not biting each other's heads off," Jax said, putting his arms on our shoulders. Just like that Caiden's cold exterior was back in place. His face was emotionless as he shrugged off Jax's arm.
"I hope you don't mind. I invited Nick. His plane home got delayed till tomorrow so I thought why don't we all hang out here. I'm sure it's been far too long since you two have talked anyways Claire." I narrowed my eyes also shrugging his arm off. What was he playing at now?
"Where the fuck is Tom?" Caiden asked him, his irritation could be sensed from miles away.
"Kyle went home for break and Tom's parents are making him stay home and have a nice family outing," he said in a mocking tone. Caiden snorted and walked away leaving me with the douche himself.
Thanks Caiden I really appreciate it.
"How have you been Claire? I've barely seen you since that day. Does Caiden know yet about you being a guy?" Looks were casted our way when he said the last part obnoxiously.
"Yes, he found out and he isn't going to blackmail me."
"Hey, I did to you a favor. You could at least thank me. I mean look at Nick now. He's back to his old ways. Did you really think the player would change for someone like you? I'll admit it sweetheart you definitely have the body and looks but you wouldn't be good for anything besides sex," he said, his face centimeters from mine.
"You're a fucking asshole."
"No sweetheart that's Nick and Caiden. I'm not an ass if I'm only being honest."
"Stop calling me sweetheart," I hissed. "I don't know what you want from me, but whatever it is you're not getting it from me. Now you have only been here for ten minutes and you've already managed to irritate he fuck out of me. Go somewhere or leave," I snarled and he only smirked.
"How cute. You think you're actually intimidating." He chuckled. I ignored him and let my eyes skim the packed living room. I watched my brother talked to a group of girls, all of them giggling.
He just has that Martez charm.
Or nah.
