When I returned to the ward, the room was decorated with flowers and balloons. There was even a small cart beside the bed, loaded with all sorts of gift boxes. The atmosphere was festive, and if I didn't know any better, I'd think it was a birthday party.

"What's all this?" Lisa asked on my behalf.

"It's a reward for my wife," Brandon replied, still holding my hand and gazing at me with affection. "She's been through so much, and this is my way of saying thank you."

I smiled faintly. "I don't need all this."

"Whether you need it or not is beside the point. This is my way of showing my gratitude," he said, kissing my fingers. "Even if everything I have belongs to you, I still want to give you more."

"Such a loving couple—I'm honestly so jealous! With a husband like Brandon, what more could you ask for?" Lisa teased while patting my hospital bed. "But Mr. Howell, if you really want to thank your wife, shouldn't you let her lie down and rest?"

He promptly scooped me up in his arms and gently laid me down on the bed. "Come on, baby, I'll find you a comfortable spot. Your dad said he cherishes you, but let's be real, he's only got eyes for his wife." She was being quite intentional with her teasing today.

She took the baby from the nurse and placed her in the crib beside me. "Try to breastfeed her in half an hour. I'll come back to check on you."

Then she turned to Brandon. "You should put all these gifts away and store them in your safe at home. It's not safe to leave them here. If someone comes in and steals them, we won't be responsible."

"Alright, I'll put them away after I hand out some gifts," Brandon said, picking out the largest envelope and handing it to Lisa. "Thank you, Dr. Carline.

"I'm not accepting any gifts in public." She refused outright, shoving her hands into her pockets.

Brandon chuckled. "It's not just for you. Everyone in the hospital will get one."
