"Are you really not with Joelle? I won't become the other woman, will I?"

Lisa, drunk, was as adorable as a child.

Logan nodded. "You won't be the other woman. You're my one and only."

He took her hand and placed it over his chest, where his heart was pounding. "No one else has ever been in here but you."

Her fingers traced circles on his chest. "Don't you dare lie to me. I work with scalpels... I can..."

"If you don't believe me, you can take your scalpel and cut it open to see anytime." Logan's eyes were filled with a lingering tenderness and a profound sincerity.

She swallowed hard. "But we can't be together. If Mom finds out, she won't be able to handle it, especially Grandpa and Grandma—they'd probably be furious."

She still had concerns.

But it was enough that she could bravely admit her feelings for him. Now, he just needed to stay by her side and be brave with her.

"Then let's not tell them for now?" Logan's suggestion made Lisa's eyes light up.

As long as she was willing to take one step forward, he was ready to take the next ninety-nine steps with her.

She nodded immediately. "Then we won't tell them. We'll act normal... and date in secret."

Logan felt like he had dug himself into a hole. "That works for now, but we can't keep it a secret forever."

"Of course not! We can slowly let them get used to the idea. When they can accept it, we'll make it official." Lisa grabbed his hand. "Okay, Uncle Logan?"

He chuckled. "What did you call me?"

She pursed her lips. "Uncle Logan."

The next second, her lips were captured by Logan's again. "Call me by my name."

He carried her into his bedroom. Though the room was familiar to her, it felt entirely different tonight. She couldn't bring herself to look around—especially at the large bed in the center of the room. It loomed before her, vast and overwhelming, like an ocean ready to swallow her whole.

Logan whispered close to her ear, "Are you sure you want to shower?"

"Yes." She nodded repeatedly.

"Alright, I'll wait." His voice was a deep, husky rumble, like gravel rolling across silk. It washed over Lisa, sending shivers down her spine and stirring something deep within her.

It eased the ache in her heart and filled the emptiness within her. She knew she wanted him.

"No need to wait," she said, pulling him into the bathroom with her.

In their relationship, Logan had taken ninety-nine steps. This last one, she would take toward him.

The night was fleeting, steeped in passion. It was only as the first light of dawn crept in that Lisa, utterly exhausted, finally drifted off to sleep.
