"What should I do?" I was starting to get scared too.

There were so many stories online about women with postpartum depression doing reckless things. I knew none of them wanted to be that extreme—they just couldn't control themselves at the moment.

Lisa sat cross-legged across from me. "Then you have to tell me what made you cry. Even if this is just a normal postpartum reaction, there has to be a trigger."

I didn't hide anything from her. I told her how Brandon had slightly neglected me. By the time I finished, I was already laughing at myself. "Am I being dramatic?"

Lisa never sugarcoated her criticism. "You're being ridiculously dramatic. That man waits on you like a full-time nanny—there's a postpartum caregiver, but he still insists on cooking because he's afraid you won't like the food.

"And just because of one tiny slip-up, you start crying? Maddie, you've really been spoiled beyond reason."

"I didn't do it on purpose! It's the postpartum depression!" I defended myself.

She flicked my forehead with her finger. "Still, it's good that you cried and talked about it. Better than keeping it bottled up inside."

With Lisa's comfort, my mood lifted quickly. I even started teasing her. "So, how are things going with your uncle?"

She smacked me. "None of your business!"

"I'm just curious! Like… when he's pressing you down, do you ever feel—" Before I could finish, she clamped a hand over my mouth.

I saw the blush creep up her face. Satisfied, I let her go.

Then she told me about her mom checking up on her, which made me laugh hysterically. "Your mom called you a vixen?"

"Yep! And one day, when I finally confess everything to her, I'll stand right in front of her and say, 'Yes, I am the vixen.' I'd love to see her reaction."

Lisa was truly something else. She had me laughing so hard that all the gloom from earlier disappeared.

Just then, Brandon finished making dinner and called us to eat.

Even though I was already feeling much better, he still sensed that something was off. After we finished eating, he called out to Lisa.

"Mae cried?"

Brandon didn't say anything right away, as if lost in thought.

Lisa tilted her head at him. "Brandon, are you exhausted too?"

Brandon lifted his gaze to meet hers. Something flickered in his eyes before he smiled faintly. "No."

"Don't lie. It's not a crime for a man to cry, you know. I get it," Lisa said, giving him a pat on the shoulder.

"Thanks for your understanding, Dr. Carline," Brandon said.

But just then, his eyes flicked toward the door.

Lisa followed his gaze—and saw Logan standing there, unnoticed until now.

Her cheeks flushed red. "How long have you been standing there eavesdropping?"

Logan walked over without a word, took her hand, and tucked it into his coat pocket. "If I didn't eavesdrop, how else would I know you're so good at comforting other men?"
