Lisa leaned against Logan slightly, her fingers tracing lazy circles in his palm as the two of them quietly walked out of the courtyard.

"What brings you here?" she asked softly.

Logan had parked his car farther away than usual today—just so he could have this quiet walk with her. "I came to find you."

He was so sure.

It was only then that Lisa realized—aside from me, she really had no one else. Which meant Logan could always find her with ease.

But that was just the way she was. She hated socializing. She'd rather be alone than make fake connections with people.

"You didn't even call. How were you so sure I'd be here?" Lisa asked playfully.

Logan's legs were long, but he walked at an unhurried pace, deliberately matching hers. "I've raised you for so many years. How could I not know where you'd be?"

That made Lisa stop in her tracks. She chuckled. "You raised me?"

"Didn't I?" Under the moonlight, Logan's features were even sharper, his face chiseled like it had been sculpted with deliberate care.

He was ridiculously handsome. Why had she never noticed before?

"When you were little, I carried you and rocked you to sleep. You couldn't sleep unless you lay on top of me.

"When some brat bullied you in kindergarten, you made me go fight them for you. After you washed your hair, you always made me blow-dry it. You wouldn't wear new clothes unless I told you they looked good.

"On your first day of school, you refused to go unless I went with you. When you failed a test, you dragged me into figuring out how to avoid getting scolded.

"And then, when you got your first period, you bawled your eyes out, convinced you were dying."

His voice was calm and steady as he listed off her childhood memories—so many of which she had already forgotten.

But he remembered them all. Somehow, that felt warm and safe.

"Logan," Lisa said with a grin, "so I basically won you over bit by bit, didn't I?"

He paused for a moment. "I don't know. I don't know when it happened. At some point, you just became a part of me and I can't stand even the thought of you being unhappy."

Logan stopped walking and looked down at the woman in his arms. "Maybe my coming to the Cohen family in the first place was all just fate."

"Logan, I may not have raised you, but I am someone you raised," she reminded him.

Logan placed his hand on the back of her head, pressing her against his chest. His thumb gently stroked her hair. "You're getting more and more lovable."

Lisa listened to the steady thumping of his heart. "What is it? Just say it. Did my mom come looking for you again?"

"No," he said before her thoughts could run wild.

"Then what is it?" She wrapped her arms around his waist. It felt warm and secure.

"I have to leave for a few days. And, I don't want to."

Lisa immediately looked up. "A business trip?"

There was a brief hesitation before Logan nodded. "Four to five days."

Lisa sighed in relief. "I thought it was something serious. Just go, then."

But Logan frowned slightly. "Why do I feel like you want me to leave?"
