"You left me, Dante." She repeated with conviction.
I was stunned at her confession. "I know I overreacted. Who wouldn't be? But we could've talked, you know. When I came back to the penthouse, you're no longer there."
"You were the one who left first. I checked your room but you weren't there anymore." I tried to defend.
"I left to cool myself down." She retorted. Her look gave off as if she couldn't believe I did the easy way out. "I can't face you while I'm still feeling so freaking angry at you. I asked one of your men whom I noticed who kept following me by the way, where you were. He said you left for Italy. Imagine what I felt when you left after you got what you always wanted. You literally fucked me and left, Dante. What am I supposed to feel?! And you just walked your way towards my life again asking to work things out. Screw you, Dante! I'm still fucking hurt and furious at what you did."
"Amore, I'm so sorry. It never crossed my mind." I said as I nudged closer towards her. I am almost tempted to grab her hand and hold it for dear life. When did I become so helpless before a woman?
"That's probably because you're a selfish bastard. I don't even know why you came back for me. What? Because you don't trust me? Afraid that I'll sing your name to the world who you are?" She spat, her tone laced with venom.
"No, of course not. I came back because you're special to me. You're very important to me, amore." Her eyes were now glistening with tears. I figured it's the best time to tell her what I've planned and decided for us. I looked at her eye to eye, serious at what's about to come out of my mouth. "I... I'm quitting the mafia. I'm no longer the don of the family." Hailynn eyed me in disbelief, eyebrows furrowed together. "I gave it to Cara, my cousin who I told you about. She understood I did what I did."
Somehow I didn't know how I ended up kneeling in front of her while holding her hand tightly between mine. She was still surprised with my confession. Her eyes were wide as if it's impossible for me to do what I just I did.
"Hailynn, amore, we can work this out. We'll get married and have the family we deserve. I left my life for you, cuore mio. You're going to be my present and my future now. You and the twins."
She scoffed and rolled her eyes. "How can you be so sure that these babies are yours?"
A heavy weight crushed my chest. Rage came afterwards, a hot burning feeling was trying to surface. Out of spite, I grabbed her wrist unaware of it being too tight and might hurt her. I gritted my teeth as the words slipped out of my mouth. "You know I'm still a Ranallo. You don't want to know how a Ranallo can be so possessive and territorial. Those babies are mine. You are mine. And you are not going to leave me. Over my fucking dead body." I growled/
I realized that I might have overreacted. Hurting her was unreasonable especially now that I should not stress her out. She was obviously hurt when I saw her wince at my action. Her face scrunched in pain.
"I'm sorry." I immediately let her go. She shook her hand probably to drive away the pain that I've caused which made me feel guilty even more. Hailynn only rolled her eyes, feeling like what we were discussing was unimportant to her. That just adds to my fury. I felt my nostrils feeling at her reaction.
"I'm sorry if I came on too violent and aggressive."
"You think?" She then glared at me. I raised both of my hands in surrender. Two women are after my head right now so I'd rather be humble for the mean time.
Avery and I finally talked in civil while we let Hailynn go inside and take a rest in her bedroom. Instead of staying on the patio, I decided to tour her outside the mansion, especially the best part of the place which is the garden and just further away, the pocket forest. I had to admit though, this place is grand and stunning but it lacks the homie feeling like one Stefano's and Avery's mansion emits. When I stepped foot on their home, I was a bit envious of the feeling their place gives off. It was what I've been longing for ever since my parents left.
She sighed. We stopped at a bench in front of us and she moved to sit down. I followed suit. I let my elbows rest on my knees, leaning over.
"You must think that I'm acting like a concerned hen over my chicks." She paused as she pondered. "I have been friends with her and her partner Ethan which I assume you already knew about him." I nodded in reply.
"I do. It's hard not to know him when I destroyed her painting." I remember how she always whined about it. I didn't care at first but I was eventually struck at her emotions especially when she cried. It was one of the first times that I actually felt guilty about something.
