Harry and Rex had both made it to the tech conference, of course.

They just showed up a little later than Maggie’s group.

Unlike Jack, the first people Harry spotted when he walked into the venue were Maggie and Johnny.

It had been a good while since he and Maggie had last seen each other.

He went over to say hi to them first.

Maggie and Johnny were surrounded by people, but when they saw him coming, they greeted Harry warmly enough.

Harry had been hoping to get a few more words in with Maggie, but she and Johnny were clearly in the middle of something with other guests, so he didn’t want to intrude. He made the rounds with a few other familiar faces before finally heading over to find Franklin.

Franklin was deep in conversation about tech and potential partnerships. He looked up when Harry arrived and grinned. “You made it.”

“Yeah,” Harry said.

Julia’s expression stayed flat. She didn’t say anything.

Franklin was probably too caught up in his conversation to notice, but she had noticed. The second Harry walked in, the first thing he did was make a beeline for Maggie.

In Harry’s eyes, in Harry’s head, there was only Maggie.

Rex spotted Maggie and Johnny too, but he didn’t go over to say hello. He went straight for Julia instead, heading right toward her the moment he found her in the crowd.

Someone pulled him aside before he could get more than a few words in with her, though, and just like that he was swallowed up by other people wanting to talk business.

Inside the venue, Maggie and Johnny were both slammed. Franklin and Rex were the same.

Julia, by comparison, was the odd one out.

She couldn’t exactly jump into Franklin’s conversations when he was working a room. And while she did have her own company, it wasn’t in a place right now where there was much room for outside partnerships.

As for tech talk, she wasn’t known in these circles. The vast majority of people here had no idea she was even someone worth having that kind of conversation with.

So she ended up looking like she had nothing to do.

That’s when Dr. Mark came walking over,

Julia’s face lit up. She stepped forward to meet him. “Dr. Mark, it’s been forever.”

Dr. Mark recognized her right away.

He gave a warm nod and shook her hand. “Ms. Brown, what a surprise. It really has been a while.”

Julia smiled. “Dr. Mark, I’ve actually been wanting to talk to you about the multimodal architecture in your data model–

This tied into a decision her company was weighing, and she’d been hoping to get him on board.
