"My sister... my sister..."

My brother, completely limp, was dragged out of the morgue. He was unresponsive to anyone who tried to talk to him, repeating only my name over and over.

It wasn’t until he saw Emily, who had come to take him home, that he slowly, deliberately asked, "Did you kill Sophia?"

"Brother? What are you talking about?" Emily’s face was full of innocence.

He lunged at her, gripping her collar and pinning her against the wall. "Don’t pretend! I know everything!"

"Our whole family treated you so well, and you still lied to me, saying it was just another one of Sophia’s pranks!"

"Do you know that you killed her?!"

Realization dawned on Emily’s face as she let out a cold laugh. "Good to me? If you were really good to me, you never would have brought Sophia back!"

"Bringing her back was just a constant reminder that I’m an outsider, a pathetic stray living under someone else’s roof!"

I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. So, the Emily who had everything still saw herself as the victim?

What did that make me?

My brother, clearly on the edge of a breakdown, couldn’t stop ranting.

He kept recounting all the times our parents had been so good to Emily, how much he had spoiled her.

"We worried you’d feel insecure, that it would hurt your feelings, so Mom, Dad, and I made sure to dote on you even more."

"Mom said that even if their own child had to suffer a little, they couldn’t let you feel any pain. And this is how you repay us—by killing Sophia?!"

With bloodshot eyes, he reached out and started to strangle her, doing what I had longed to do but couldn’t. His fingers tightened around her neck, squeezing hard.

"Brother, but I’m your sister!" Emily sobbed, her eyes red, but my brother was beyond hearing her.

Sensing danger, the older detective rushed forward and pried them apart.
