Tristan took her hand in his, his grip gentle yet grounding. “You still need to eat, but honestly, that’s not the real issue here. What really matters is what happened at your engagement party. From the looks of it, those people were probably sent by Benjamin Gomez and Isabella Austin.”

Emily’s voice was soft. “I know. I told the police everything, but they couldn’t find any evidence.”

Tristan paused, his expression thoughtful. “With the way Benjamin Gomez manages his assets, I’d bet the deal with those guys happened abroad. If we only investigate here, we probably won’t find much. We should focus on what’s happening overseas.”

Emily looked at him, a hint of surprise in her eyes. “You want to help me? Don’t you have your hands full with work?”

A small smile played on Tristan’s lips as he reached up to gently ruffle her hair. “The company’s not too busy right now. Let your boyfriend handle this.”

Emily couldn’t help but laugh, her mood lightening as she started the car. “Okay. I’ll trust you.”
