Ethan glanced at his watch. “Now?”

Amelia nodded right away. She was already at the other end of the bed, dragging out her suitcase and packing in a hurry. “Yes, the sooner the better. I’m worried the legal process will move fast and then we’ll really be out of time.”

Ethan didn’t look thrilled. “It’s already night. You really want to hit the road in the middle of the night? Why not wait till morning? One night won’t make a difference.”

“No, it has to be now.” Amelia was firm. “Hurry up and pack, too. I’m booking the next flight. We have to get back as fast as possible.”

She was tossing her things into her suitcase, but when she glanced up and saw Ethan still standing there, clearly unhappy, she frowned. “Come on, stop just standing there.”

She went back to packing, her voice quick and determined. “Do what you want, but I’m leaving on the next flight. If you want to stay, that’s up to you.”

Ethan let out a long sigh, then finally grabbed his own suitcase. They packed in silence and left together.

Right before boarding, Amelia sent Andrew a message.

Andrew, I’m heading back first. Please think about what I said. You and Isabella have been together for years. That doesn’t just disappear. I know you still care about her. Please, think it over. Don’t let Emily Blair trick you, and don’t do something you’ll regret later. I’ll be waiting for you to help me save Isabella.

She put her phone away, checked her suitcase in, and got on the plane.

After work, Emily Blair checked her phone. Tristan Davis hadn’t texted her since noon, which was weird for him. He was usually way more chatty.

Elizabeth saw her expression and cracked up. “I knew it! You totally forgot your anniversary. Tristan is so much more into this relationship than you are.”

Emily pressed her lips together, trying not to smile. She felt a little awkward, mostly embarrassed.

She knew exactly why Tristan posted it.

Because of the Rivera family, the Davis family didn’t want to stir things up. They’d let the whole engagement party mess fade away without saying much, just announcing that it was postponed and leaving it at that. It was all to save face for Cynthia Rivera.

If the Davis family or Tristan had said publicly that the engagement was set up without his knowledge or that he was forced into it, everyone would have turned on Cynthia. The gossip would have been brutal, and people would have called her desperate.
