Elizabeth had been waiting so long her legs were starting to go numb. Finally, the client’s secretary popped in with an apologetic smile. “Ms. Wilson, I’m really sorry for the wait. Josh is ready to see you now. Would you come with me?”

Elizabeth was a little irritated about being kept hanging, but it wasn’t worth making a scene. Business came first.

She followed the secretary out of the room. There was a bit of noise near the elevators, but Elizabeth didn’t think much of it—until she looked up and locked eyes with someone she hadn’t seen in years.

It was Amelia Lane. Elizabeth remembered her all too well. Back in high school, Amelia had been the ringleader of the group that bullied Emily Blair.

Elizabeth didn’t hesitate. The second she caught that familiar look of disdain in Amelia’s eyes, she rolled her eyes right back, making her point clear.

Amelia was so mad she could barely breathe. She recognized Elizabeth instantly and wanted to roll her own eyes in return, but Elizabeth had already turned away. All Amelia could do was glare at her, eyes practically burning holes in her back.

The elevator arrived. Kevin Lane gestured for Amelia to get in. She shot one last glare at Elizabeth’s back before following him inside.

Elizabeth’s attention shifted to the older man standing beside Amelia. She leaned toward the secretary and whispered, “I actually know those two. Can you tell me what they’re here for? Just a hint?”

The secretary smiled, lips pressed together. “Sorry, Ms. Wilson. That’s private business for Josh. I honestly don’t know.”

Elizabeth shrugged, letting it go, but her mind was already spinning.

As soon as she left the client’s building, Elizabeth whipped out her phone and started texting Emily Blair at lightning speed.

Elizabeth: URGENT!!!

Elizabeth: Guess who I just ran into?

Elizabeth: The Lane family! Amelia Lane and that ancient relic with her. They’re here to see Josh!

Emily: Got it.

Elizabeth tossed her phone aside, then glanced up to see Amelia and that old man getting out of their car and heading into Josh’s company.

She nearly pressed her face to the car window, watching them with narrowed eyes.

Emily, on the other hand, wasn’t all that worried. The evidence against Isabella Austin was solid, the verdict from the first trial was already out, and the entire country had seen it happen.

A case like this was nearly impossible to meddle with.
