Sterling and the others stared in disbelief.

What?

Nina jumped from the building?

Everyone rushed out, the sound of sirens and ambulances already filling the air. On the ground lay a pool of blood, a white sheet covering a frail body, with only a patch of worn-out gray clothing visible.

Nina's mother covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face. "This... this is the outfit Nina wore when she came home!!"

Sterling couldn't believe it. He rushed past the police line, shouting at them to uncover the body so he could see for himself.

Those words left Luna, who had followed Sterling out, pale-faced. She bit her lip and stepped forward to comfort him, but before she could speak, a video suddenly appeared on the large screen in the plaza. The video began with me sitting at home, eating noodles, and speaking.

"Mom, Dad, for all these years, you've always disliked the competition between me and Luna. Now, I'm returning you to her. Blood is needed to repay grace, and I'll return you to her."

"Sterling, marrying you is the biggest regret of my life. You make me feel disgusted."

The video then cut to footage of Luna and Sterling, showing their conversation clearly.

Sterling trembled, his face drained of color.

So Nina had known everything all along.

He had thought Nina was drowning in the pain of losing her child, that she would be too sad and helpless to care about these things. But instead, she had chosen to protect her child, even at the cost of her own life, waking up early to expose everything.

He thought he had hidden everything well. He had been so self-righteous, believing there would be a better future for him and Nina.

What must Nina have felt, waking up early in the operating room and hearing the conversation with the doctor? How hopeless must she have been?

Sterling couldn't bear to think any further.
