Cedric continued, "It's nothing. I was just curious, is all. It's fine if you don't want to answer that question."

He glanced at her and then started the car again to drive her back to the apartment.

His car stopped by the roadside, and he waited until he saw the lights come on in the living room. He could easily guess what she was doing inside the house.

Cedric then rolled down the car window and called Noelle on the phone.

She picked up and said, "Hello, what's up?"

He then explained, "I've thought about what you asked earlier. If you really were in that situation, I'd help you out behind the scenes, but I won't interfere with your life."

That was what he had intended to do when he first went to her high school to look for her, after all.

Upon hearing that, Noelle finally understood why Cedric had acted like he did during her past life.

In her past life, Cedric really did not interfere with her life while helping her out a lot. It was her own fault for not realizing the truth sooner and for blindly believing helping out her brothers was worth her sacrifices.

Their phone call fell silent.

Cedric continued with a hoarse voice. "Are you upset?"

He could say something nice to her, but he did not want to lie to her anymore.

Noelle cleared her throat and replied, "No, like I said, my question was just hypothetical."

Cedric let out a sigh of relief.

She then continued, "Then, in that case, would you have married Laura?"

He froze up for a moment and then suddenly started laughing.

"Is it that funny?" she asked.

Cedric looked at the warm lighting glowing from her window and smiled faintly. "I don't have such bad taste in women."

Noelle smiled as well. "Alright, I'm going to sleep now."
