Cedric's expression shifted slightly, and he moved toward Emma. "Let's talk inside."

But she didn't budge. "Don't lie to me. I'm not a child, and I don't need things sugarcoated."

Alfred quickly interjected, "You're overthinking, Mrs. Greene. It's not what you think."

Emma shook her head, and her gaze stayed on Cedric. "No. I want you to tell me."

Cedric had no choice but to explain, "There's a problem with the kidney donor. The transplant can't go forward right now."

Emma didn't seem fazed by the news and replied, "Oh… I thought it was something worse. If we can't do the surgery, then so be it."

Alfred jumped in again. "It doesn't mean we're out of options. There are still treatments we can explore."

"Didn't you say earlier that nothing else worked? Stop lying."

Cedric reassured her, "There were options. I just wasn't convinced they'd work."

"And now, do you suddenly think they will?"

"It's not the treatment that's unreliable, Mrs. Greene; it's the one doing the surgery. The doctor handling it is Noelle's third brother, Carl," Alfred explained.

Emma seemed startled to hear that the doctor was a Liddell. "Are you sure about that? I never knew there was someone this powerful in the Liddell family, and I thought they only made it this far because of Noelle."

She'd looked into them, and none of the Liddell siblings seemed particularly accomplished. To her, it was Noelle who'd carried the family this far, while the others were a bunch of ingrates.

Her instinct was to doubt Carl's qualifications and capabilities.

Smirking, Cedric replied, "I checked him. He's more than capable. From what I found, his lab is legitimate, and so is his work."

Alfred laughed along. "Honestly, we all thought he was full of hot air in the beginning, but now, we'll have to take it one step at a time."

Emma seemed to relax a little. "Does Noelle know about that?"
