Noelle stared at Carl in disbelief when she heard what he'd just said. She couldn't quite understand what he meant.

"What do you mean? Make yourself clear," she said.

Carl hesitated before saying, "As I told you, we discovered Xenia's conspiracy with Mr. Q after you died. But by then, the Liddell family was already on the decline. With Ivy working against us in secret, we had no chance to turn things around.

"When we went to the mental hospital to retrieve your body and hold the funeral, we found that the Greenes were already there. Cedric wouldn't let us take your body."

"And?"

"Of course, we couldn't go up against the Greenes, and Cedric ended up taking your body. The Greenes and Merlocks were close back then, so he must've taken your body to cover things up for the Merlock family."

Noelle lowered her gaze. "Is that so? What happened after that?"

"The Liddells were on the verge of bankruptcy, while the Greene and Merlock families formed a marriage alliance. I had no choice but to return to the island, where I ran into Ivy, who was fleeing with the stolen funds. And not long after that… I woke up."

As Noelle listened to all of this, she gradually came to understand the full picture.
