Frank said, "Noelle, I really like your gift. You used to treat me really well, but I never appreciated you for it. That was all my fault. I'll treasure this gift from you."

Carl called Noelle. "Noelle, I didn't expect you to think of bringing us souvenirs from your vacation."

Noelle really did not want to take the call, but she had to answer it to maintain appearances. She smiled awkwardly and replied, "Yeah, I picked them up while I was watching the sunrise. I just so happened to find six identical ones."

Carl looked at the seashell that Noelle had claimed was deliberately picked up in his hand and replied calmly, "This is actually the first gift I've received from you."

Noelle replied sarcastically. "Your memory must be failing you, Carl. I send you gifts every year for your birthday, remember? Does none of those count?"

The smile on Carl's face faded considerably. He spoke up with a hint of guilt. "I'm sorry, Noelle. I didn't know how to cherish it back then."

Noelle replied, "You're right. We always take things for granted until we lose them after all."

Her patience was running thin as she continued, "Do you have anything else you want to say?"

Carl replied, "No, I just wanted to thank you for the gift. Maybe Blake was right. I've really been going about things the wrong way. I hope you won't hold it against me."

"Yeah, got it. I'll be hanging up now."

With that, Noelle ended the call. She thought about Blake's advice and realized that it was pretty helpful. It was best to keep Carl under control for now.

The holidays for her university classes were still ongoing after the New Year. Noelle returned to work at Maple Enterprises, and the electric vehicle project had already reached its preliminary phase.

She entered the office and sat down, only to be swarmed by some colleagues and Ryan, who said, "I heard that you went on a vacation to the seaside! I'm so jealous!"
