Frank felt even worse at the thought. "Why did things still end up like this? Why did nothing change in the end?"
He felt that it was all too unfair. Blake turned to Frank and said, "Frank, what do you mean by that?"
He wondered what Frank meant by nothing changing in the end. He felt like he was the only person who didn't know about a secret of sorts within the family.
Frank did not say anything back.
Donovan stood quietly to the side and tried his best to look heartbroken to avoid rousing any suspicion from the Greenes. As of that moment, only he and Carl knew that Noelle was still alive.
No one else did.
Everyone went their own way after the funeral was over. The Liddells got in their car and left right away.
Cedric stared in the direction they had gone with a deep yet unreadable gaze.
Alfred spoke up. "We've fooled them this time. We can swoop in and take Noelle back once they let their guard down."
Cedric nodded. "Let's go."
The funeral had all been an act. There was no need to keep up the act now that all of the Liddells had left.
Meanwhile, the Liddells returned to their villa, and Carl immediately saw Noelle's black-and-white photo on display in the living room. He immediately stepped forward and flipped the photo down.
Blake walked over and said, "What are you doing, Carl?! It's already bad enough that you were late to the funeral. How can you flip over Noelle's portrait?"
Frank walked over as well and looked at Carl. "Carl, are you hiding something from us?"
He felt that something was off, given what he knew about Carl. He believed that Carl would not be acting like this if Noelle had died.
Carl stared at the photo and replied, "I just can't accept that this happened. Don't put this here."
