Noelle's gaze turned cold at Donovan's words. As expected, he still couldn't bear to lose the Cantrell family's support and resources.

She sat on the couch. "And how do I know you're telling the truth?"

Donovan paused. "What do you mean?"

"Exactly what I said. You suddenly claim to have found new leads. But you're telling me you just happened to uncover something now after all these years of searching? Do you think I'd believe that?" Noelle had calmed down now.

She suspected that Donovan's claim of discovering more clues wasn't necessarily true. It could just be a tactic to keep her in check.

Donovan's eyes narrowed. "If you want to doubt me, I can't help that. I've been investigating for years, so of course, I'd be faster in uncovering the truth than you."

"But I don't believe you." Noelle made it clear she wouldn't fall for his tricks.

Donovan pondered for a moment before sighing. "Noelle, I'm still your brother. Finding out the truth about our parents' deaths is something we should both be doing. There's no conflict of interest here. You don't need to be so guarded against me."

"Have you forgotten how many times you've used our parents' deaths to threaten me?" Noelle calmly reminded her brother of his past threats.

Donovan cleared his throat. "That was because you wouldn't listen to me…"

But seeing Noelle's expression, he couldn't bring himself to continue his justification. After all, Noelle had become numbed to his words.

Donovan adjusted himself. "Noelle, the Liddell Group is at a critical juncture right now. The Cantrells are our biggest investors. Our company will go bankrupt if Salena withdraws her investment."

"And who gave you the courage to keep investing in AI projects? You couldn't even win the last bidding competition," Noelle probed. She wanted to know why Donovan had partnered with PZ Group.

Donovan explained, "Are you afraid the Liddell Group will become a competitor to Maple Enterprise? But business competition is normal. Even if it's not me, some other company will take a shot at it. Wouldn't it be better for the two of us to divide the market between us?"
