Was Donovan insane for agreeing to negotiate with the Merlock family? How could he ever think of setting aside the deep hatred of their parents' deaths and reconciling with them?

"Noelle, the affairs of the Liddell family aren't for you to decide alone. Donovan is the one who has the final say," Laura said, reminding her.

Noelle coldly responded, "What a shame. I have all the evidence, and when I hand everything over to the authorities, it won't make a difference even if Donovan wants to reconcile."

Reconciliation was meaningless in criminal cases. It might reduce sentencing slightly, but it wouldn't eliminate the punishment altogether.

Laura's expression didn't improve much after hearing that. She stared at Noelle and asked, "Must you push that far before letting go?"

The dead could never come back to life, so why must Noelle continue entangling herself in hatred?

"Like I said, I can never reconcile with anyone over the hatred of my parents' murder. I'll never make peace with anyone over it."

"Don't be too sure about that, Noelle. We all have things we care about in life; the dead can never be compared to the living."

Noelle scoffed. "If that's how you see it, I'll return your words to you when your mom is sentenced to death."

"That's different. My mom's still alive!" To Laura, Noelle's dead parents could never compare to Ruth.

Noelle stared at Laura coldly as she snapped, "Exactly. Your mom, the murderer, is still alive, but my parents are dead. Do you think that just because they're gone, they no longer matter?

"If there's going to be any reconciliation, it'll be after your mom pays with her life. When that day comes, we'll see if you can repeat what you just said."

No wonder Laura came from the Merlock family. She was just like Ruth. To them, Noelle's dead parents were utterly worthless.

Laura's face flushed with fury. "You may think that way, but Donovan doesn't. I hope he knows what's best."
