Cedric frowned at her words. The office door was open, and the employees outside exchanged curious glances. What was going on? Did Cedric mess around with Laura and then ditch her?

Cedric remained composed. "Please escort Ms. Merlock out."

There was nothing left to discuss between him and Laura now. A secretary walked up to Laura.

"Ms. Merlock, I'm afraid I have to ask you to leave. Mr. Greene still has matters to attend to."

"Get out of my way. Nothing is more important than what I have to say right now." Laura shoved the secretary aside and stormed up to Cedric.

She lowered her voice. "Do you think I don't know what you did to my mom?"

Cedric looked up at her calmly, then gestured for the secretary to clear the room and close the door. He was curious about what Laura had found out.

Once the office door was shut, Laura continued, "So it really was you."

At first, she couldn't believe it. But now, a part of her was starting to. If Cedric wasn't involved, then why did he suddenly clear the room? Wasn't that a sign of guilt?

She stared at him in disbelief. "How could you do something like that? My mother always treated you like a son."

Laura had been on the verge of a breakdown lately. Ever since her mother disappeared, the whole family had been in chaos.

She had suspected the accomplices from the attempted murder years ago and even the Liddell family, but she never doubted Cedric.

Cedric's expression was unreadable. "What I did doesn't even begin to compare to your mother hiring a hitman."

"So you admit it? Cedric, I'm surprised you're actually admitting it. I'm so disappointed in you." Laura's heart sank. She had confronted him, hoping to hear a denial. But instead, he confessed.

Laura began to panic. She hadn't expected Cedric to know about that. It explained why he was helping Noelle.

Was he also trying to investigate the truth from back then? If so, the Merlocks were finished.

Laura's eyes watered, and she choked, "That was just an accident! My mother didn't plan that. Even now that she's been kidnapped, she has never revealed that you were in the car, too. Doesn't that prove she's innocent?"

Luckily, her mother had never mentioned Cedric being in the car.

Cedric sneered. "She hired a hitman. There's no way she can be innocent."

Laura braced herself. "It was just a normal business competition! My mother never intended to kill Noelle's parents. It was an accident.

"They were just unlucky. That driver tricked her and tried to blackmail the Merlocks for more money."
