Noelle hesitated. Carl said gently, "Noelle, trust in my ability. I can help you, and I want to help. I won't ask for anything in return."

Noelle looked up. "That's not how I do things. I won't let you help for free."

"What do you want me to do?" Carl could guess what she was going to bring up.

Noelle said, "My friend's mother is ill. And her condition is getting worse by the day. The doctors said she needed a kidney transplant."

Carl hummed. "What do you need from me?"

"I want you to take a look and figure out the cause of the illness. See if it can be treated with medication. I don't want her to go through a transplant unless necessary."

She stared at Carl and noticed something odd about his expression. But she couldn't place a finger on it.

Carl composed himself. "Sure. That's nothing. And you were referring to Mrs. Greene, right?"

Noelle nodded.

Carl chuckled. "Don't take it the wrong way. I figured it out myself. Even though I'm not around, I've kept up with what goes on around here. Cedric lied to you, yet you're willing to go this far for him. As expected of my sister."

Noelle didn't react to his praise. "I'll talk to the Greene family and schedule a time that works for everyone."

Carl nodded. "Alright. I'll go in for an assessment. And I'll bring in a team to treat her if necessary."

Noelle pursed her lips. "How much will it cost?"

Carl laughed. "Noelle, I said I'm going to help, and won't ask for anything in return. Especially not your money."

Noelle frowned. She wasn't used to this. "That's not how it works. Your team will be putting in time and effort. They should be compensated. Medical research costs a fortune."
