When Noelle arrived at the gate, she saw Jeremy's flashy car parked by the roadside. She walked over quickly. "How's the situation? Is it serious?"

"It's hard to say. We'll know once we get to the hospital." Jeremy immediately drove off. "I suspect the Merlocks had a hand in this."

"Really?" Noelle asked.

Jeremy nodded. "Laura hooked up with a guy who is neck-deep in the underworld. He runs all kinds of shady businesses and has connections with all kinds of people. Someone like that has even more influence in prison than outside. If he wanted to do something to Xenia's father, it'd be all too easy."

Noelle frowned. It was just as she suspected. She pursed her lips. "I didn't expect the Merlocks to act so soon."

While waiting at a red light, Jeremy tossed her a tablet. "I have to admit, Ms. Merlock does have some skills. Guys like that usually have women flocking toward him. And to get him to do the Merlocks' dirty work? Laura must've worked hard behind the scenes."

Though all her hard work probably involved the bed.

Noelle switched on the tablet and immediately saw a photo of a middle-aged man. He wore a large ring on his pinky and had a dangerous smile.

One glance and Noelle could feel chills down her spine. He clearly wasn't someone to be trifled with.

She skimmed through his profile. As expected of an underworld business, his empire was sprawling and messy. But gambling was his main income stream.

"That's him?" she asked.

"Yes. Take a good look and memorize his face. Their father-son duo is bad news." Jeremy frowned.

Noelle picked up on it. "Have you dealt with them before?"
