AVA
Time seemed to slow to a halt, and even behind me, the obnoxious noise that the other students called chattering didn't sound too loud anymore. All that could be heard was the loud thumping of my heart deep in my chest, and it's almost a gentle whisper to break through my skin if I don't find a remedy soon.
Silence.
Pin drop silence was all that could be heard amongst the four of us. The kind of silence that settled amongst us was the kind that came with a pressing weight. It was suffocating to say the least, and if I didn't put an end to it any time soon, I wasn't sure what was going to happen.
“Ava?” Liam's voice was all it took to snap me out of my thoughts again. He sounded cool, but I also didn't miss the concern in his tone and worry in his eyes. He had a look of indifference and skepticism, but something told me that was directed at Kye, and not me. “You didn't answer me.”
“I…” my eyes darted to Kye. He was still standing in front of me, with his hand against each side of my head, and if he was bothered by the interruption, he didn't show it. I, for one, couldn't be more grateful for Liam and Asher’s presence. Heaven only knew what Kye had planned for me today, and something told me it couldn't be anything good. “It's nothing.”
I finally mustered the courage to speak, and likewise the strength to push Kye away from me. He budged on my first trial, and instead of waiting to see or even think about how I was able to push him, considering how heavy he was, I ducked under his arm, before walking to Liam.
“It's nothing…Liam…” I repeated again, stopping in front of my brother. Liam and Asher weren't standing too far from me and Kye, so you could almost say we were in something I liked to call a loose circle.
“What are you doing here?” I directed a question at him instead, but before I could dive into the next one, I caught sight of his legs. “Liam, where are your crutches?”
Liam had hurt himself during practice after school yesterday. I'd honestly thought it was just an accident and boys simply just being boys, but the moment the name Kye slipped past his lips, I just knew it wouldn't be a coincidence.
