“But you need to end whatever you have with Kye. Tonight.”

With that, he turned and stormed out of the room. The door slammed behind him and I collapsed forward, my forehead hitting the carpet.

How am I supposed to end it? Liam doesn’t understand. No one does. How can I tell Kye that I can’t continue?

That was almost impossible.

That night, I couldn’t sleep. My blanket was too hot and my skin was too cold. Every sound made me jump and every minute felt like an hour but my heart never stopped pounding.

I was about to force myself to sleep when I felt it.

I sat up and saw Kye’s silhouette move across the room like smoke. I didn’t know how he got in but he had somehow found his way into my room.

Did he hear our conversation? Is he here to punish me? I wondered as my stomach twisted into knots.

He said nothing at first, he just walked to the bed and sat beside me. His body was still… too still for someone like him and I couldn’t help but fear he was here to try something with me and I started to hyperventilate.

He reached for me and I flinched but he didn’t grab or pull me. Just… rested it gently on mine.

“Did you tell him?” He finally asked, his voice barely audible and I shook my head in response.

I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding as he lay down next to me and pulled me into his arms. I stiffened at first, waiting for the shift, the flip of a switch and the moment he would decide to remind me that he held all the cards. But it didn’t come, at least not that night.

He wrapped his arms around me and they were warm… solid as his breath fanned the back of my neck. And somehow, I was able to sleep off in his arms.

The next day felt like a prison with no bars. Liam wouldn’t leave me alone and his shadow clung to me from the second I woke up.

He drove me to school, walked me to every class and even followed me everywhere that I went. The only place that I could breathe properly was the girl's restroom and even then, he waited outside the door like a guard.

I could tell that Kye was looking at me. I could feel it.

His eyes followed me down the halls, through the glass windows of the classrooms and even across the courtyard. They burned into the back of my skull and from time to time, I even caught him staring at me.

But he didn’t approach me and Liam had taken my phone and turned it off.

The second day, I tried to enjoy the peace and quiet I had gotten since Liam started following me everywhere but it just had to be ruined when my eyes fell on Kye.

He was leaning against his car with his sleeves pushed up. Bruises bloomed across his jaw and knuckles like they were flowers that no one should ever water. He looked wrecked, unhinged and dangerous.

Everyone could see that he was wounded and he was obviously not in a good mood.
