KYE

The first thing I noticed when I walked into the Graham mansion was how fucking quiet money could be. The kind of silence that hummed around polished walls and expensive paintings.

It was suffocating in the way that it made you hyper aware of your breathing, your footsteps and your presence. I stood there in black from head to toe, holding flowers like some lovesick idiot, trying not to smirk at the ridiculousness of it all. I just want to get this over and done with.

Ava walked down the stairs, all nerves and shakily poised. Liam hovered beside her like a damn guard dig. I wonder why he’s always like that beside her. Ava’s eyes barely met with mine, but it didn’t matter because I wasn’t here for affection. I was here for an opportunity. And free food, maybe.

Her father walked into the room like he owned the room… and maybe he did own it, in his own twisted corner of it. Alexander Graham.

I had been waiting to meet the man but I didn’t expect him to lead with a shit straight to the jugular. I was ushered into the dining area and then served a plate of rice and vegetable sauce and I had barely started eating when he dropped the bomb.

“When did you start fucking my daughter?” He asked, calm as hell, like he was asking if I took my coffee black.

Spoon mid air, I paused and leaned back into my chair slowly. I didn’t flinch nor did I look at Ava, I didn’t even blink. I just dropped the spoon into the plate deliberately and let it clatter. I like this man’s audacity to ask me this kind of question. It felt like he was testing me, but what he didn’t know was that I wasn’t some kind of pushover. This should be fun.

“Wow,” I drawled, eyes on him. “What can I say?”

His gaze didn’t budge. It was strong, steely and cold.

I tilted my head and narrowed my eyes. “Do you know that she was the one who first kissed me at the party?”

From the corner of my eyes, I saw him glance at Ava. Her stiff posture and wide eyes told me everything I needed to know. Oh, maybe the man doesn’t know.

I smiled as I remembered the kiss. The reckless, drunken moment… that was what pulled me into her world and I had not been able to stop spinning inside then.

“That kiss was what pulled me to Ava and I’ve been unable to resist her since then,” I added, my voice low and even. “And for the record, the sex we had was mutual. If she had told me that she didn’t want to? I wouldn’t have forced her. Because that would have been rape, wouldn’t it?”
