Sienna:
I stood in the center of my old room, half bent over the edge of the bed as I zipped up a small bag with a few of Isla’s extra things and one of my sweaters I’d somehow forgotten.
Well, technically I didn’t really think that it was an issue considering the room was simply down the hall, but I still wanted them to be around. It would be a lot easier to have them in the closet or in nursery without the need of picking them up when I wanted them or having to have a maid bring them for me.
It wasn’t much, just small pieces I still hadn’t moved to Damon’s suite. My suite now, I supposed, though I hadn’t fully wrapped my mind around the idea of calling it that. Though he wanted me to call it that, He had addressed it as our suite a few times. I just couldn’t bring myself to call it God. I couldn’t bring myself to say it out loud.
The familiar sound of his footsteps approaching made me pause. I didn’t even need to look up before I felt him behind me, his presence like a whisper against my back, warm and steady.
“What are you doing here?” Damon’s voice was low, but there was a hint of something softer behind it. Teasing. Curious. “I thought that this room was to be ignored for a few more weeks.”
I turned to face him, still holding the bag in one hand. “Just grabbing a few things I left behind. That’s all. You needn’t worry, I’m still not going to abandon you anytime soon.”
His eyes swept over me, and then without a word, he stepped forward and cupped my face in his hands. The kiss came suddenly, catching me off guard. Not urgent, not possessive, just soft. Intentional. Like he had been thinking about it all day. And I couldn’t help but find myself smiling into it.
When he pulled back, his thumb brushed along my cheekbone. I leaned into his touch and he smiled as he looked at
me.
“I thought you’d grown tired of me,” he murmured. “I thought that she would want to leave.”
A smile crept to my lips before I could stop it. “And what would happen if I did? Genuinely curious about what you would be doing.”
His lips curled into that familiar, dangerous smirk that always made my chest flutter. “Then I’d have to remind you exactly what you’d be missing.”
I laughed, quiet, but real, and wrapped my arms around his waist, resting my head against his chest for a moment. His heart beat steady beneath my ear. He kissed the crown of my head, letting his lips linger there for a few moments as he inhaled my scent. I visited her shirts for a few moments, knowing that I was allowed to do so, knowing that this was an intimate moment between the two of us. I knew that he would not stop me and I knew that I did not need to ask for permission, but things seemed to be different between the two of us. And that was something that I found myself embracing.
“Remind me then,” I whispered.
He pulled back just enough to kiss me again, longer this time, deeper before pushing his tongue inside my mouth, our tongues battling for dominance that I did not want to admit, trying to win but failing miserably. He moved away from my lips to my jawline, my neck, sucking gently on my collarbone as he did. I whimpered under his touch and he smirked against my skin. He had left a love bite, that was for sure.
I expected him to go deeper, to go more into it, only to be surprised when he pulled away to look me in the eye.
“You did all this?” I asked, stunned.
He shrugged like it wasn’t a big deal. “Thought we could use some time alone. Without the pack. Without Isla. Without everyone else. Just us. I figure that starting things where the Silvers used to stay together alone when we were younger would be the right way for things to begin.”
I turned to look at him, and saw the truth behind his nonchalance. He needed this too. The space. The quiet. The reminder of what we were slowly becoming.
I stepped into his arms, resting my palms on his chest.
“Thank you,” I whispered. “For seeing me. “}
His arms wrapped around me, holding me close. “I always see you, Sienna. Even when I pretend not to.”
And for the first time in a long time… I believed him.
