Damon:

The drive home was quiet, but for once, it wasn’t awkward or full of tension. It was peaceful.

Sienna sat in the passenger seat, her head resting lightly against the window, shoes kicked off, her legs tucked under her like she belonged there. And maybe… she did.

It was a long day for the two of us. That was not something that I could easily deny or ignore.

She didn’t speak, and I didn’t push for conversation either. We didn’t need it. After the chaos of the day, the silence between us felt earned. Comfortable. Like something we had fought for and finally started to understand. Something that the two of us found ourselves embracing together. It was better this way between us. Sometimes just spending time together was a better option.

When we pulled into the estate, she gave me a small, sleepy smile before slipping out of the car. I waited until she stepped inside before following behind her.

And just like that, it hit me again, how much had changed.

Not just with the pack or the business.

But between us.

It was as if the two of us have completely decided that things should be everything that we wanted them to be.

Inside, the air was warm, and the lights had already been dimmed. The scent of something sweet lingered in the air. My mother must’ve been baking again, stress relief, probably. Or she was just keeping herself busy with something. Knowing her, I knew that she rarely ever cooked anymore. It was always a joyous moment when she did. Though when I was younger I didn’t already understand the reason behind her cooking, I knew that I always found myself admiring it.

I stepped into the living room and saw her sitting quietly beside Isla’s bassinet. Her hand was resting on the edge of the cradle, eyes focused on the baby as if memorizing every inch of her face.

“She looks just like you,” Mom said softly, not even glancing my way. “But she’s got Sienna’s mouth. And her stubborn demeanor sometimes.”

I moved beside her, hands slipping into my pockets.

“That’s why she’s already got a bit of attitude,” I muttered. “She is a little combination of two stubborn souls. What else should we expect?”

Mom chuckled, but it was quiet. Thoughtful.

“You two,” she started, pausing as if she needed to search for the right words. “You seem… better. I’ve seen how the two of you have been acting together. You seem to have changed a lot.”

I didn’t deny it. “We are. Things are better between the two of us.”

Her fingers gently brushed over the edge of Isla’s blanket, her brows furrowing like she wasn’t quite sure how to say what was on her mind. As if she was debating on how she was going to speak about it.

“I was hard on her,” she admitted finally. “I know that. I pushed you. I let my fear control the way I looked at her, and I treated her like she didn’t deserve to be here. If anyone deserved to be here, it is her, always.”

“You’re your father’s son,” she murmured. “And that is something that I’m proud of. I always will be.”

“I get that a lot.” I said, making her smile. But That’s Tomorrow was quick to change, and it’s turned into a serious expression, one that she often had when she wanted to tell me something that she did not want me to forget.

She shook her head with a fond expression. “I’m serious, Damon. I’ve watched the way you look at her now. And I’ve seen the way she looks at you, even when you’re too stubborn to notice. Don’t ruin it.”

“I’m trying not to,” I said honestly. “I don’t want to lose her. Not anymore. Not after everything that’s happened between the two of us.”

Mom gave me a knowing smile. “Good. Because I think this time… you’ve got something worth fighting for.”

Her eyes flicked to Isla again, then back to me.

“More than just a daughter, Damon. You’ve got a family now.” She said, her voice softening. “And this is a family that is worth fighting for. That is something you always need to keep in your mind…”

And somehow, for the first time in a long time… it actually felt like I did.
