Giovanni:

Lysandra’s voice echoed off the walls of my study, shrill with fury and humiliation.

And though I should not have found this amusing, I had to fight back the urge to laugh sometimes. My daughter was being inconsiderate. She was being irresponsible and far too emotional for her own good. Had she listened to what I had told her in the 1st place, she wouldn’t have been in this situation. But here she was dealing with the anger.

“She embarrassed me in front of the entire boardroom!” she snapped, pacing back and forth. “In front of your company, your people! And Damon just stood there, defending her like she was royalty. Like she was more than what she is, a filthy Omega who was supposed to die alone in some ditch! And yet he gave her his shares. He gave her everything that he fought to build. He has been sharing things with her. The two of them spent the entire day together in their office. I’m forced to just sit back and watch them. She stares back at me. She speaks to me. She refers to me as Lysandra rather than Luna. And I’m supposed to stand back and listen? Who does she think she is?”

I sat quietly in my chair, sipping from my glass of scotch. My fingers tapped against the armrest as I watched her unravel. I was allowing her to let out her anger. I was allowing her to speak what it was that she had on her mind because I knew that if she did not, it was just going to be a storm that I did not want to end up dealing with. And knowing my daughter, that storm was not going to die down easily.

“She’s not just winning, Father. She’s replacing me. And if you don’t do something…” she turned, pointing a manicured finger at me, “…she’s going to bury everything we’ve worked for. And you are not doing anything about it. All you are doing is just sitting here sipping whatever it is that you have in your hand. It was you who appeared in the office, told her about this, whatever this is, told her that she was an employee in your company, that you gave her a chance. You could have kept her away. You could have kept her at bay. If she did not know, then she wouldn’t have been here, would she? Damon would not have been keen about giving her his shares.”

I set my glass down with a soft clink.

“Are you done?” I asked calmly. “Because you’ve been saying far too many words for your own good and it’s just starting to get on my nerves.”

Lysandra opened her mouth, but I raised a hand.

Love.

She hated it when I used it to describe another woman. Especially her.

“But problems,” I said, turning to face her, “have solutions. And the solution to this one… will be unexpected. It will be one that I did not want to use, but I know for a fact that if I choose. Not true. It is just going to go in vain. Her presence is just going to be one that keeps bothering me.”
