Damon:

By the time we got home, the sun was already dipping below the horizon, casting long shadows over the estate grounds.

“I’ll go and check on Isla. Do you want to come with me?” Sienna asked, making my eyes soften.

“I need to send you a few things in the office. I will follow you in a little while, alright?” Asked after, she nodded and I watched as she took a step back, heading up towards the nursery.

I took a deep breath and run my fingers through my hair as I tried to clear my thoughts as I tried to clear my mind. The number of thoughts that I had going around my head were countless.

I needed to breathe.

And I needed to talk to my father.

I knew that he was the one person who was going to be able to help me with this mess.

I followed his scent and walked towards his own study. He looked at me and raised an eyebrow. “You look like you’ve been dealing with hell.”

“Mostly because I was.” I said, and he hummed in response.

He was sitting in the study, sipping his tea like he hadn’t been shot and nearly killed just weeks ago. His posture was straight, his expression unreadable, but his eyes… his eyes still burned with the fire that made him who he was. The man who built everything I was born to protect. He was a man who fought hard to teach me how to maintain things the way that I should.

“Sit,” he said without looking up. “I believe that you have a lot to tell me.”

I did.

“I know what you’re going to say,” I muttered. “Nor do I know how I’m going to say it.”

“I doubt that.” He glanced up. “You’re angry. You’re impulsive. You want to tear Giovanni’s world apart for what he’s trying to pull. And you are doing your best to try and control yourself.”

“Is that not what we should be doing?” I snapped, jaw clenched. “Controlling myself has done nothing except drag me into more problems except drag me into more health than I would want to deal with and accept push me to the limits that I did not want to think about.”

He studied me for a moment, then set his cup down. “Yes. But we do it with precision, not rage. You’re Alpha, Damon. You don’t flinch. You don’t rush. And you don’t make enemies out of shadows. And I doubt that you are doing a good job in trying to control yourself, Damon. If you did, then things would have been completely different.”

I looked away, biting the inside of my cheek.

“I gave her shares,” I admitted. “I put Sienna in the center of this, and now she’s a target. Each one of them wants to find a way to bite on her, to kill her, to have her head somehow.”

“She’s been a target from the moment she came back,” my father said. “You didn’t put her there. Giovanni did. But you gave her power. Now you teach her how to use it. Because if you do not, they’re going to try and crush her under its weight. And Sienna is going to need you to help her stand strong to maintain everything that she’s been trying to hold on to.”

I nodded once.

Ethan entered a few seconds later, his expression tense. “We’ve doubled the security at the company, and here. Lysandra’s movements are being tracked. We’ll keep her under watch, but if she makes one wrong move…”

“Don’t hesitate,” I said. “I don’t care what the consequences are, I don’t want you to hesitate in bringing her or catching her. Regardless of what is going to happen, the choice happens the way the you see correct and fit.”

Ethan nodded.

My father stood. “You know what Giovanni’s trying to do, don’t you?”

“Split us,” I said.

“No,” he replied. “He’s trying to destroy her… so he can destroy you. She is going to be your weakness. As an alpha, your Luna is both your weakness and strength. She is your strength when she’s standing by your side, but she is also a weakness when she is pushed away from you when she’s put in danger. Giovanni is going to play on that line. He has been for a while now.”

I didn’t get a chance to respond.

“Please, I’m lost. I’ve been trying to run, I’ve been trying to find help, but I cannot find it in myself to get out of this forest. No matter how hard I’m trying, I just keep getting lost.” She said weakly. Her eyes were wide with fear. My father let out a little growl in warning. I looked at him over my shoulder and his eyes hardened. “I mean no harm, I promise, I’m just lost. Please they will kill me if they find me. Just tell me how I can leave.”

She collapsed to her knees, gripping her side.

I rushed forward, catching her just before she hit the ground completely.

“Hey,” I said, kneeling with her in my arms. “It’s okay, I’ve got you. What is your name? What are you doing here and who are you trying to run away from?”

She looked up at me through dazed eyes, her lips trembling. And then she whispered a word that made every nerve in my body jolt.

“Mate…”

And she fainted.

I stared down at her, this stranger bleeding in my arms, the one with a scent that shouldn’t have struck me the way it did.

Ethan moved beside me, frowning. “Damon… what the hell is going on?”

I didn’t answer.

Because I didn’t know.

“Call the pack doctor. She’s going to need help…”
